Description

Position Type: Federal Work Study And Non Work Study

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support to students taking classes at Detroit Mercy.
  • Explain concepts in a manner that students understand.
  • Observe and help to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
  • Perform front desk activities, including phone calls, record-keeping, and tutoring coordination Proctor and support Testing Center activities. 
  • Provide support to SSC professional staff. 
  • Perform other office duties as assigned. 
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Must be enrolled as a Detroit Mercy student.
  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty member or professional on the subject they wish to tutor.
  • Cumulative GPA 3.5 or higher.
  • Tutors must have earned a “B+“or higher in the courses they tutor.
  • Attended at least one full semester at UDM.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of subject areas in the courses they tutor.

Physical Requirements:

  • The job may require lifting light-weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. 
  • Occasionally lift average-weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • M-F, flexible daytime hours, some evening hours required
