COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) helps to advance the mission and strategic initiatives of the agency by fostering meaningful relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that deepen community involvement, promote awareness of the organization’s programs and services, and build lasting partnerships that support our Mission Critical Focus areas (community involvement, legislative advocacy, visible partnerships, family engagement, program impact and financial solvency). The CEM will serve as a key liaison between the agency and the communities we serve, building and expanding partnerships with community leaders and members. 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 


Community Engagement & Outreach 

  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain active relationships with community members, including local, state elected officials and their staff, local organizations, and community influencers.
  • Research and monitor legislative activity to understand their potential impact on our organization.
  • Collaborate to compile information to educate policymakers on community and organization needs and support advocacy positions. 
  • Develop advocacy strategies that are aligned with, and raise awareness of, the organization’s strategic initiatives
  • Track legislative advocacy progress, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement successful outreach strategies to connect with underserved communities in the County, as well as BP alumni.
  • Attend and represent the organization and NJSOC at community-based committee meetings, county and/or state coalitions as assigned. 
  • Manage a successful Ambassador Program to support recruitment and outreach through collaboration to:
    • Define goals and objectives of the program.
    • Create ambassador policies and guidelines. 
    • Get employees' input.
    • Determine quality measures.
    • Create all Ambassador promotional materials.
    • Budget for Ambassador event supplies 
    • Cultivate, train and provide recognition of ambassadors.
    • Track the progress of ambassador program.
    • Evaluate implementation of ambassador objectives


Resource Development:

• Assist in the assessment of community needs, challenges, and prioritize service gaps as part of the annual 

community resource development request for proposals.

• Research and collaborate to compile information and data into a compelling narrative for use in outreach and 

advocacy efforts.

• Collaborate to promote and build resources in BergenResourceNet.org and connect individuals and 

communities to relevant resources and services. 

• Collaborate to recruit, train, and manage BP Ambassador Corps.

• Collaborate with internal and external partners to plan, implement, and evaluate community events to 

capitalize on resource and relationship-building opportunities and amplify impact.


Support Fundraising Activities and Contributions


• As necessary, plan, implement, and evaluate organization events and/or participation in community events to 

capitalize on resource and relationship-building opportunities.

• Gather and organize feedback through surveys, focus groups, and direct interactions to inform organization

strategy.

• Support appropriate solicitation of monetary and/or in-kind donations and contributions related to 

organization’s Mission Critical Focus areas.

• Assist with other critical development initiatives of the department/organization on an as-needed basis.

• Perform other miscellaneous duties, as assigned by Supervisor or higher-level management personnel.

• Comply with all of the Organization’s policies and procedures as specified in the Employee Handbook


Annual Measurable Outcomes/Demonstration of Program Impact


• Increase the number of "visible partnerships" with community leaders, businesses, and influencers.

• Successfully implement outreach strategies that increase program participation from underserved 

communities.

• Increase the number of elected officials and staff, local and county community leaders who actively engage 

with the organization, such as through meetings, briefings, and event attendance.

• Increase the number of community members/BP constituent families who participate in advocacy efforts, 

such as contacting lawmakers, attending rallies, or signing petitions.

• Collaborate to increase attendance and revenue at agency events by 20 percent from prior year, 

demonstrating effective community mobilization and resource development.

• Collaborate to increase the total value of donations received from community partners.

• Increase community organization representation and usage of the BergenResourceNet.org platform.

• Collaborate with CR team to identify and implement a customer relationship management system that can

track key legislation and produce quarterly reports detailing progress and potential impacts


Requirements

  

Master’s degree in business/public administration, communications, marketing, public relations, public health, or the equivalent in experience. 

• Proven experience in community engagement, advocacy, outreach, or a related role. 

• Strong organizational and project management skills. 

• Experience using a Customer Relationship Management platform (CRM) is a plus 

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and own a vehicle. 

• Bilingual skills are a plus

 • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders of diverse perspectives. 

• Demonstrated experience in and successful outcomes in community event planning. 

• Experience with analyzing datasets, program outcomes, and delivering actionable insights and compelling data stories. 

• Excellent multitasker with keen attention to detail. 

• Strong project management and organizational skills. Experience using project management tools is a plus. 

 • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes. 

• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and all levels of management, internally and externally. 

• Ability to take initiative to pursue goals and work with a high degree of autonomy.

 • Effective problem solver. 

• Tech-savvy.  


Physical Effort: Driving; Lifting office supplies and client files.


Equipment Used: General Office Equipment, Vehicle, Communication Devices, Computer.


Work Environment: General Office. Flexible schedule: Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM. Evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Salary Description
$67,500.00- $82,000.00
