POSITION TITLE: Dining Room Kitchen Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Dining Room Program Manager
HOURS: 20 hours per week (11:00am – 4:00pm Mon. through Thurs.)
CLASS: Non-Exempt
SALARY: $18.50 - $20/ hour DOE
BENEFITS: Eligible for FFLC sponsored benefits (e.g. paid time off benefits such as holidays, floating days, vacation and sick).
ABOUT THE DINING ROOM: FOOD For Lane County’s Dining Room is a restaurant-style meal site in downtown Eugene serving over 200 free meals a day to individuals and families living with food insecurity. The Dining Room’s volunteers and staff provide table side service and a welcoming, judgment free environment for guests to enjoy a meal.

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dish Room Operations
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and sanitization of dish room and kitchen to meet Health Department standards for a commercial kitchen
- Operate sanitizing machine safely and effectively
- Work in cooperation with the Program Manager in scheduling regular maintenance and cleaning of dish room equipment
- Maintain adequate inventory logs of needed sanitation supplies and chemicals
- Order and receive sanitation supplies, verify packing slips/invoices, and utilize inventory control methods to ensure proper storage of chemicals and other non-food items
- Promptly report any maintenance or repair needs to the Program Manager
- Ensure opening and closing protocols are completed each day
- Efficiently wash and restock dishes during a fast-moving meal service
- Clean and sanitize all items used for meal service
Kitchen Assistance
- Assist the Kitchen Coordinator to assure the efficiency of food service
- Assist with meal prep as needed
- Adhere to Lane County Health Department Commercial Kitchen food safety guidelines
Volunteer Assistance
- Train volunteers and delegate tasks to them to support efficient flow of the dish room
- Promote retention of volunteers through building relationships, trust, and respect
- Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator and Program Manager regarding any challenges with volunteers
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBIITIES:
- Fill in for other team members as needed
- Maintain a high level of respectful communication with the team
- Assist the team to ensure all restaurant cleaning and closing duties are completed, including but not limited to: bathrooms, floors, parking lot, trash, etc.
- Remain calm at all times and respond in a professional manner
- Train and work side by side with guests, job trainees, and volunteers
- Attend required meetings and trainings
- Attend scheduled events outside of restaurant operating hours, including cleaning days, trainings, staff retreats, and fundraising events
- Represents FOOD For Lane County to the public with knowledge and respect
- Follow all Dining Room and FFLC policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: We value all forms of experience including, unpaid work, lived experience, education, and training.
- Experience working in a fast-moving restaurant
- Ability to keep a high energy, positive, non-judgmental attitude at all times
- Ability to understand the diversity of our diners and volunteers
- Assess escalating behavior and make appropriate decisions quickly
- Ability to make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions while volunteering in dish room
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
- Exceptional time management skills

Working Conditions:
- This position performs essential physical labor which could include frequent walking, frequent standing for long periods of time, regular bending, regular pushing, occasional stooping, regular lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and regular stretching.
