Description

Position Summary: 

Steinway & Sons is looking for an experienced piano technician to join its elite Concert & Artist team, based in the iconic Steinway Factory in New York City. The Concert Technician will provide piano technician and selection services for the world’s top Steinway artists and legendary venues including Carnegie Hall, Village Vanguard, Lincoln Center and more. This is a highly coveted role, providing a chance to work with the world’s finest instruments and artists.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Travel to concert halls, festivals, competitions and recording sessions nationwide to prepare, maintain and tune with Steinway pianos and Steinway Artists, Orchestras and Universities who own and use Steinway pianos
  • Work with the factory manufacturing team to provide feedback on new production pianos and partner on initiatives to improve quality, design and performance of new Steinway pianos
  • Prepare and maintain concert instruments to Steinway’s historic standards for performances and selections
  • Test the tone and action of the pianos to assure Steinway standards are met prior to putting piano into service
  • Assist in selection process of pianos to be used by various artists, answer technical questions and adjust piano to specific demands of performer
  • Meet the expectations of artists and customers through the regulations and/or voicing of individual instruments according to Steinway performance standards
  • Attend and remain on location for certain events, recordings, and performances to fully support Steinway artists and venues
Requirements

  

Qualifications, education and experience:

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years formal training school for piano technology or related certifications
  • 5+ years of piano technician experience
  • Experience supporting festivals preferred
  • Must be able to do solid concert tunings, have experience in voicing Steinway hammers and regulating skills
  • Candidates must participate in technical evaluation
  • Must be able to work flexible hours for performances, including nights/weekends
  • Note: This position requires some local travel. Candidates must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. and be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time


The expected base salary range for this position is around $70,000/year plus a quarterly bonus. Exact compensation will vary based on skills and experience.
