Under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Relief Services, the Assistant Program Director provides support and assists with the management of the BHI kitchen operations to ensure that nutritious meals are delivered on a consistent and predetermined schedule. The Assistant Program Director also assists with the general program operations ensuring our nightly distribution of meals by assisting with the supervision of the GCFP Program Assistant, Part-Time Drivers and volunteers. The Assistant Program Director performs job duties consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition for the Homeless.
The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday 11am-7pm.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Program Director shall:
- Assist with the supervision the Program Assistant and Part-Time Drivers to ensure that program vans are properly loaded and that vans arrive to scheduled stops on time;
- Assist with the supervision of the BHI kitchen operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with NYS-DOH hygiene and sanitation guidelines as well review menus to ensure compliance with the NYS-DOH nutrition requirements;
- Submit timesheets for kitchen staff and drivers and keep track of staff attendance;
- Work with volunteers and program staff to ensure effective delivery of nutritious meals on schedule as well assist with training program staff and volunteers in appropriate client staff interactions;
- Be responsible for vehicle upkeep, maintenance, repair, and cleaning;
- Fill in for an absent volunteer drivers when necessary. Accordingly, maintain familiarity with all van routes, as well as meal, resource and service distribution on the vans;
- Ensure pertinent documents (insurance + registration) are always maintained on the vans and that the vans are regularly stocked with resource guides and any additional essential items (i.e., hygiene kits, socks, clothing, etc.) that are available for distribution on a given night;
- Perform heavy lifting as the job requires, including the daily transport of 80+ lb. crates of food up one flight of stairs from the kitchen to street-level and then onto the program vans;
- Obtain regular supervision with the Director of Emergency Relief Services to review program operations, issues/concerns, staffing, client services and budget/resource management, among other matters;
- Participate in all required staff and other meetings, such as in-service trainings and staff development and orientation activities;
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Emergency Relief Services or designee.
BA is preferred. Experience serving homeless individuals, individuals with mental illness, and/or persons with a history of substance use is strongly preferred. Experience with emergency food providers strongly desired. A valid driver's license with clean driving record is required and experience driving vans is strongly preferred. Heavy lifting, including the ability to lift 80+ lbs. is required and at least two years in a supervisory role is required. Must be a team player who is flexible and willing to assist with program needs as they arise. Spanish and/or French and other language proficiency is a plus.
