What are we looking for:
Mechanical Technician - Sanford, ME
This position is responsible for equipment repairs, troubleshooting, upgrades, and installations; process support; preventative maintenance; and facilities maintenance. You will interface with operations and engineering to help maintain production efficiency and product quality. This role requires effective time and priority management, with engineering support available as needed.
Expected Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with flexibility to adjust.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Engineering process support (i.e. tooling set-up, equipment start-up, etc.). Work with operators and engineers to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
• Preventative maintenance, equipment repairs and/or upgrades. Work with engineering staff and/or suppliers to maintain machines and operations.
• Work independently and with engineering staff to assemble automation equipment using drawings and electrical schematics
• Maintain equipment inventory and coordinate with purchasing to sustain inventory. Inspect and receive incoming equipment and/or machined parts.
• Maintain facility and grounds. Continue 5S implementation and organization of plant.
• Other duties as assigned.
• High School diploma or GED with minimum 3-5 years of machine maintenance experience, or an associate degree in engineering and 1-2 years of related experience.
• Proficiency in fixing and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and facilities.
• Knowledge of mechanical devices (i.e. motors, pumps, pneumatic valves).
• Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings
• Strong ability to work independently, identify issues, and resolve them efficiently
• Capacity to work effectively in fast-paced production environment. Willingness and ability to learn and grow with role
• Basic computer skills and aptitude for learning maintenance software
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others on maintenance activities around the production schedule as needed
• Ability to use machining tools (i.e. lathe, mill) and measuring devices
• Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical devices (i.e. ovens, motor starters, switches, fuses, breakers).
• Ability to read and understand basic wiring diagrams and electrical schematics. Knowledge of 3-phase electrical power
• Self-driven with strong time management skills and an appreciation for project timelines
• Experience identifying environmental, health, and safety risks and implementing corrective actions
• Time management and organization skills.
• Must possess a collaborative team-oriented mindset and personality with a hands-on can-do attitude.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
• Willing and able to learn other applications as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work on equipment at floor level
• Prolonged standing on hard surfaces during shift
• Walking to various stations or areas of the production floor.
• Frequent bending, stooping, or kneeling to access machinery, products, or materials.
• Ability to handle small tools, parts, and machinery with precision.
• Visual acuity for reading measurements, instructions, and monitoring equipment.
• Hearing ability to detect alarms, machinery sounds, or verbal instructions in a noisy environment
Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 10% to other Evans plants
