Lancaster Farming, a leading agricultural news source, seeks a veteran Full-time Copy Editor and Editorial Assistant.

We need a newsroom-tested, detail-oriented editor and proofreader with a thorough understanding of AP style and willingness to assist in other editorial department roles. Exceptional command of grammar and spelling is a must.

Copy Editor and Editorial Assistant Essential Job Functions

• Assist writers and editors with AP Style copy editing and proofing.
• Edit for balance and accuracy. Fact check.
• Flag stories that may raise ethical or legal concerns.
• Help craft compelling ledes.
• Write succinct headlines and summaries.
• Refine cutlines.
• Provide feedback to writers and editors.
• Proof completed pages.
• Support other editorial projects as needed.

• Degree in journalism or English and/or relevant newsroom experience
• Established AP Style editing skills.
• Effective time management and attention to detail.
• Background in agriculture is preferred but not required. The willingness to learn is.
• Sound critical judgment and commitment to objectivity.
• Ability to develop story ideas and sharpen ideas proposed by staff.
• Ability to work collegially and creatively with staff and colleagues.
• Ability to work respectfully with readers, critics, community organizations and leaders.
• Enthusiasm for the job and dedication to the product.
