Description

Primary Function:

The Cashier performs all point-of-sale functions, including recording and collecting for customer transactions.

Job Requirements:

1. Must be able to Stand/Walk for prolonged periods of time.

2. Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs., consistently and repetitively.

3. Must be at least 16 years of age.

4. Must have an understanding of basic math, and have the ability to count, add and subtract efficiently.

5. Must have and understanding and the ability to operate a Personal Computer.

6. Must be able to operate all required equipment specific to assigned department

Essential Functions:

1. Effectively communicate with customers, management, and employees.

a. Receive incoming phone calls

b. Make phone calls to customers and vendors

c. Use Store intercom to alert various departments of phone calls

2. Operate all point-of-sale equipment, including cash register and terminal with sufficient speed and accuracy.

3. Visually verify the contents of carts and containers.

4. Promote the ‘Best Reward Program”.

5. Maintain cleanliness and appearance of front end of store

a. Keep customer service area clean

i. Sweep and Mop as needed

b. Retrieve carts from parking lot

c. Monitor outdoor trash cans

d. Clean glass on entry / exit doors as needed.

6. Read and comprehend distributed material.

a. Bulletins

b. Circulars, manufacturer’s literature

c. Store policies and procedures manuals, etc.

Customer Service Duties:

1. Treat customers as you would like to be treated.

a. Make eye contact with every customer.

b. Acknowledge each customer with a smile and a positive attitude.

2. Ask each customer if they need assistance.

a. Avoid use of “negative” words.

b. Remind all customers of all the services Stanford’s offers.

3. Learn the customer’s name and use it.

4. Tell customers “Thank You” whether they purchase or not.

Specific Duties:

1. Watch for shoppers who may need assistance and provide needed advice or information.

a. Page Sales Associates

b. Walk a customer to the sales desk or area they are looking for

2. Greet customers as they enter or leave the store and assist those who need advice, information or directions.

3. Accurately record customer purchases on cash register and provide customer with a receipt.

4. Scan each individual item (including identical items).

5. Count all items on lumber carts. Check shelf underneath shopping cart for additional merchandise.

6. Check inside all tool boxes and trash cans and all boxes that appear to have been opened for concealed items. Scan all items individually.

7. Price overrides should be accompanied by a sales slip signed by an authorized individual.

8. When a return of merchandise is made you are responsible for using correct procedures for customer returns and defective merchandise.

9. Be aware of sale merchandise, its price and location in the store.

10. Accurately complete credits.

11. Attend cashier meetings as assigned by management.

12. Complete tasks assigned by Supervisor and members of Management.
