Career Services Student Representative
Description

This role is a critical position for the academic programs at Atlas School, LLC and the person selected will be an expert in their subject area. The person fulfilling this role must be an effective communicator and motivator with the ability to be adaptable to a variety of situations and to relate well to students and the prospective employers. This person is responsible for ensuring that quality career services are delivered to all students and graduates, ensuring that all students have the knowledge and skills to successfully transition from graduate to employees in their chosen field of study. This person must also believe in and follow the mission and educational objectives of the school, maintain strong attention to the school policies and procedures, and always maintain a professional attitude. People fulfilling this role are expected to follow regulatory body standards and must serve as examples to their students by modeling appropriate workplace skills, language, attire, and other employer expectations in their students' chosen career training area.



Tasks

  • Participate in the delivery Atlas School, LLC’s comprehensive career services program; deliver workshops, assist in the creation of an e-portfolio for each student and work with students to develop resume writing, interviewing and job search techniques, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Career Services events such as Job Fairs, Advisory Board Meetings, Interview Panels, Community and Chamber of Commerce mixers, On-Campus Guest Speaking events, etc.
  • Conduct research to analyze employment trends both locally and nationally.
  • Develop strong relationships with potential employers to build job placement opportunities for students.
  • Prepare marketing packets, call, e-mail and visit employers in effort to build partnership opportunities and record marketing efforts in the Atlas School, LLC database to ensure updated contact information, as well as calendaring required follow-up actions.
  • Possible travel to businesses within the community to market the programs and develop job sites may be required. (Work is typically performed in an office environment.)
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students. Avoid fraternization including discussions of a personal nature.
  • Lead Career Services Alumni events, communication and graduate tracking within the Atlas Career Services database system.
  • Prepare Career Services student and alumni marketing packets, call, e-mail, schedule and lead student intake and exit meetings, and record efforts in the Atlas Career Services database to ensure updated documentation, as well as calendaring required follow-up actions.

Work Activities

  • Responsible for graduate placement verification and documentation processes and policies.
  • Generate reports to school management on student employment progress when requested.
  • Ensures the completion of initial assessments with all students within the specified time frame.
  • Provide for a collaborative effort with the education department to ensure that Professional Development courses provide students with all needed elements for a successful placement outcome. Results should include each student completing Professional Development courses with a professional resume, entry-level job interviewing skills obtained from class participation and completed mock interviews and demonstrating proficiency in job search techniques.
  • Regularly conduct one-on-one coaching sessions with students.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, on-campus Career Fairs, and other activities to promote student success.
  • Document, consistently and accurately, all student and graduate contact, activities and outcomes into the Atlas School, LLC database.
  • Maintain graduate employment documentation (i.e.: records, reports, notes, and/or files).
  • Complies with all institutional and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Hold direct responsibility for an assigned program or a program portfolio in addition to other duties.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with students and employers.
  • Assist in resume preparation and development working with instructors and students.
  • Represents the campus Career Services department at career fairs and when speaking with potential employers.
  • Oversees student professional development functions such as workshops, alumni functions, and other functions.
  • Maintains a positive and active relationship with employers in the community; assists with on-campus recruiting and other business and community-development events.
  • Assist with the creation of alumni associations for each program, develop and facilitate a schedule for regular alumni meetings and events. 
  • Assist in the collection of employer feedback and graduate surveys.
  • Actively promotes the company’s mission, vision and values statements and ensures employees incorporate these beliefs and values into their daily work ethic.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Minimally, the individual shall meet at least one of the following qualifications: 

  1. Associate Degree in a related field from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  2. 2+ years related experience
  3. Knowledge of and experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in staffing and/or placement environment


Preferred:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  2. Previous experience in the placement/staffing industry.
  3. Professional contacts in employment sectors.
