Clinical Education and Research Liaison Director, Southeast

The Clinical Education and Research Liaison Director is an integral member of the Clinical Development and Medical Affairs (CDMA) function and will be a scientific resource responsible for conducting high-level exchange of scientific information across products and disease states with external thought leaders and internal scPharmaceuticals stakeholders. This individual is responsible for managing and supporting medical education, scientific exchange, clinical research initiatives, and strategic account support for both marketed and pipeline products. The Clinical Education and Research Liaison Director ensures appropriate scientific exchange, develops peer relationships with thought leaders and content experts and provides balanced scientific support to healthcare professionals on behalf of scPharmaceuticals in their assigned geographic region. They will develop a deep understanding of the cardiovascular and renal clinical landscape with a focus on heart failure and chronic kidney disease. Further, this individual will synthesize their field insights and communicate with CDM leadership as well as home office colleagues including senior leadership teams, brand team, managed markets team, corporate communications, investor relations, and business development, among others.

This position reports to the Senior Director, Field Medical Affairs.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops and articulates excellence in the exchange of clinical and scientific information across a range of healthcare professionals to advance the safe and effective use of scPharmaceuticals products.
  • Participates and/or leads national project teams that drive the achievement of goals that align with the medical affairs strategy including product medical strategy, training, education, publications, and research (clinical, patient oriented, real-world and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR))
  • Identifies key thought leaders and content experts and engages in compliant clinical and scientific exchange and balanced discussions across different types of healthcare organizations: national and regional healthcare systems, academic centers, integrated delivery systems, payors, and group purchasing organizations in the areas of medical education, clinical, non-clinical and health economics, and outcomes research.
  • Leads development and communication of scientific data to diverse audiences including physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other key stakeholders in hospitals, managed care organizations, government, academic centers, clinical practice groups, group purchasing organizations and integrated delivery networks
  • Communicates with Payors and provides medical information pre- and post-approval in accordance with FDA guidance for Drug and Device Manufacturer Communications with Payor and Formulary Committees. Synergizes this communication by collaborating with managed care team and national account directors.
  • Communicates medical insights and feedback gathered from scientific exchange and relevant information to define, update, and support medical affairs strategies.
  • Leads efforts across Medical Affairs to keep abreast of latest scientific, disease state, emerging therapies and the healthcare landscape and integrates this information to provide value to both external and internal stakeholders
  • Continuously ensures the conduct of appropriate and compliant clinical and scientific exchange with healthcare professionals
  • Identifies and facilitates research opportunities with external investigators that are aligned with scPharmaceuticals research focus areas
  • Collaborates with Clinical Research to aid in scPharmaceuticals sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies
  • Identifies opportunities for data generation activities through investigator-initiated research, and Medical Affairs and/or Clinical company sponsored studies for clinical, and non-clinical and health economics outcomes research that is aligned with scPharmaceuticals research focus areas
  • Participates in medical writing functions including drafting and reviewing medical information standard responses, scientific abstracts, publications, scientific slide decks, etc.
  • Provides scientific support for commercial functions of the organization including scientific support to health care practitioners and training for speakers and sales force as needed
  • Attends and participates in medical/scientific meetings and local, regional, and national conferences for the purpose of providing medical information booth coverage and/or keeping informed of latest scientific data and healthcare evolutions to provide insights that inform strategic directions
  • Leads and facilitates advisory boards and other activities that inform strategic directions.
  • Maintains cross-functional collaboration with internal functions and field teams to provide scientific expertise and functions as a scientific advisor with Clinical Research, Commercial, Investor Relations, Business Development, Corporate communications, etc.
  • Uses technical expertise to support team and departmental projects
  • Takes responsibility for delivery of Medical Affairs goals

Required Expertise Competencies:

  • Expertise in clinical and practical patient care or industry experience in the area of cardiology/heart failure or nephrology/chronic kidney disease
  • Advanced degree; MD, NP, PA, PharmD or PhD
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in biopharmaceutical industry as an MSL
  • Expertise in initiating, developing, educating, and maintaining credible scientific relationships wi health care providers
  • Knowledgeable in new product launches with direct experience preferred
  • Expertise in working in fast-paced, dynamic external and internal environments.
  • Knowledgeable in and experience with Phase 4 post approval studies, including HEOR, registry, and Investigator Sponsored Studies

Expectations:

  • 40-60% travel and is available to work evenings and weekends as needed for medical meeting coverage and other activities
