We develop and manufacture detergents designed for heavy vehicles; think school and city buses, semi-tractor fleets, and garbage trucks. The Role
Our traveling service technicians split their time between installing new systems on site and performing preventative maintenance/repair for existing customers. During new installations, our service technicians are the “boots on the ground” to serve as the face of Hydro-Chem, coordinate with contractors, and ensure our systems are installed and integrated correctly. This could include communicating blueprints and drawings, helping install plumbing, electrical, or HVAC systems, programing wash cycles, setting up pressure washers, and more. During maintenance and repair jobs, service technicians perform preventative maintenance on water heaters, pressure washers, chemical injectors, control boards, and other machinery according to manufacturer specifications. If customers are experiencing service issues, technicians may attempt to trouble shoot over the phone or email; if the issue progresses to on-site repairs, technicians must identify broken or malfunctioning components, and complete effective repairs using a variety of hand and power tools.
Service Technicians travel extensively. Up to 70% of the job requires nationwide travel, sometimes on weekends or on short notice. When not traveling nationally, many days will involve local travel around Michigan to service systems nearby. This positions weekly schedule can vary from 30 hours at the home office to 60+ during installations. This location is based out of our home office in Caledonia Michigan. Required travel can include the lower 48 United States and some portions of Canada.

Who We're Looking For
We’re looking for a team member who is attentive to detail, is proactive at solving problems, and is safety conscious. An ideal candidate has a background in mechanical process, can read blueprints and drawings, and can direct the activities of subcontractors.
QUARTERLY ROCKS
Each quarter the Service Technician will establish, with the Service Manager, the specific results, improvements, or accomplishments required to support HCS and departmental objectives. These are expressed as ROCKS.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Following processes and procedures according to the “HCS Way”
- Routine regional travel, at times with little notice.
- Working irregular hours, including evenings and occasional weekends, up to 70 hours per week.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that meet car rental, company insurance requirements, and Federal guidelines for driving a commercial motor vehicle.
- Able to travel to and drive in Canada, to include enhanced Driver’s License.
- Work with and direct onsite contractors and sub-contractors
- Maintain professional appearance and able to maintain composure with challenging customers.
- Read and understand mechanical and electrical blueprints/schematics, to include ladder logic.
- Effectively trouble-shoot, repair, and bring resolution to customer concerns/issues while in the field.
- Strong decision-making capabilities; sometimes quickly with logic to back-up decision.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. The intent of this position description is to guide the activities of the Service Technician. Educational Requirements
- Minimum GED required. Additional trade/tech schooling with an emphasis in mechanical repair preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Technical Experience: Experience with technician instruments and tools, both mechanical and electrical.
- Industry Experience: Previous experience on pressure washers and automated systems preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Driving or flying for extended periods of time.
- Extended hours away from main location of business

- Working on ladders or other elevated platforms.

Technical Requirements
- Software: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
- Interpersonal Skills: Socially capable, interacts confidently, reads the situation. Empathetic and can evaluate likely reactions, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Mechanically Inclined: intuitively can take apart, put together or design “things” that are mechanical, selecting the most appropriate materials and tools to complete the work.
- Computers: comfortable with computers
- Write Effectively: Conveys information clearly and effectively through both formal and informal documents; reviews and edits written work constructively.
