The Vice President, Legal & Compliance recovers debt due from customers through litigation,
negotiated settlement and other judicial procedures. Provides legal support to other departments.
Supervises staff of Legal Department and manages the legal function within the company.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation
- Prosecution of collection cases and supervising staff case management
- Refers cases to outside counsel as necessary and oversees their work.
- Responsible for bankruptcy cases. Refer bankruptcy cases to outside counsel and oversee their work.
- Appear at hearings.
Advice of Counsel
- Conduct legal research and prepare written and oral advice to AEF staff on a variety of topics, including the Uniform Commercial Code, business entity law, pertinent state laws and regulations, and contract law.
- Prepare documents and correspondence when requested for particular projects or other circumstances.
- Maintains professional competency.
Staff Supervision and Management
- Supervises the Legal Department staff, manages their workloads, and oversees the quality of their work.
- Maintains budget.
- Attends management meetings and implements policies.
Compliance
- Monthly compliance meetings
- File review
- Yearly compliance audits
- Direct yearly compliance training to the company
- Quarterly new hire compliance training for new hires
Other
- Manage buyouts for Broker agreements
- Review OFAC daily
- Verify vendor contracts
- Debt sales
Required Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
- Ideally the candidate would be located in for Nebraska or Greater New York City Metro, although fully remote can be considered with travel expected.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such
as computers, phones, copiers/scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. May require training in new
software systems or learning upgraded software programs.
Physical Demands

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of Amur Equipment Finance are Monday through Friday, 8:00
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Flexibility to occasionally stay late to meet business needs.
Travel
Some travel is expected for this position to attend conferences and seminars, to assess collection
activities, attend court and travel to Amur's headquarters.
