Afghan Women's ESOL Instructor
Description

CRIS's Refugee Youth Mentorship/Community Connectors Program is seeking a skilled and experienced ESOL Instructor to provide English language instruction to Afghan women new to the United States.


Full-time position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt/hourly position, competitive hourly rate, flexible spending account (FSA) program, 403b tax-deferred retirement savings option, paid time off, paid holidays, and eligibility to participate in medical, dental, and vision insurance, availability during general office hours of 8:30am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday (open to evening/weekend classes if this is preferable for ESOL Instructor)


Provides effective ESOL instruction to one to three classes of about 5-20 adults during the daytime hours Monday thru Friday (open to evening/weekend classes if this is preferable for ESOL Instructor and students)

Coordinate primarily in-person classes at the CRIS Office, in the community, and/or student homes to increase accessibility to ESOL classes for Afghan women

Drives participants to and from class, as needed, with access to CRIS vehicles as needed/available

Practice learner-centered instruction approach in the classroom

Collaboratively work with a team of instructors, case managers, employment counselors, community service providers, and supportive staff in the development and implementation of lesson plans and achievement standards

Maintain accurate attendance and achievement records and report regularly to Program Manager

Participate in trainings and meetings as necessary

Requirements

TESOL/TEFL Certification strongly preferred

Preference for instructors with a Master’s degree in TESOL

Experience in classroom teaching, preferably with pre-literate adults in TESOL and/or Employment-related classroom material

Knowledge and experience in communicative and participatory teaching methods

Skilled in interpersonal and intercultural communication

Possess native-quality English, including precise grammar, correct spelling, clear pronunciation

Strong organizational skills

Experience working with diverse populations

Excellent (English) writing skills

Proficient skills with Microsoft Excel, Google Apps including Google Drive, e-mail, and internet

Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current automobile insurance with clean driving record and willingness to drive clients

To be eligible to be added to CRIS' agency vehicle insurance and drive agency vehicles, the candidate must have or be willing to obtain an Ohio Drivers License, have at least 2 years of driving experience in the U.S., and a clean driving record assessed through a review of the Motor Vehicle Report
