Computer Vision Data Scientist Co-Op (Spring 2025)
WFH Flexible Boston, MA or Boulder, CO
Description

If you are thrilled by the idea of using computer vision and machine learning techniques to translate images into insights for the next-generation electricity grid, we want you!

We are seeking brilliant people who geek out about computer vision and machine learning, to work with our real-world imagery gathered from LineVision’s camera systems installed on power transmission line towers. You will be working mainly with Python and AWS cloud infrastructure to train and validate computer vision models that detect and alert on anomalies in the power transmission right of way.

What will you do?

You will work as a member of our “Computer Vision Squad” to help build out train/test infrastructure, and train initial prototype object detection algorithms. You will:

  • Spot check labeled image training data to make sure it meets our quality specifications
  • Train and validate prototype machine learning models to detect anomalies such as: conductor objects, smoke, unauthorized vehicles, ice and snow, and anomalous wind-driven motion
  • Develop methodology ideas using classical computer vision approaches that could detect critical image states (for example a snapped or broken cable) without ever having seen a sample training image of that state
  • Contribute to design discussions regarding code and MLOps systems architecture
  • Be a valued member of a high-performing team by supporting team goals of continuous improvement and our culture of growth-mindset

Skills and experience required to succeed in this role

  • Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Medical Imaging or a related degree with exposure to Computer Vision ML
  • Initiative, creative problem-solving skills, and team collaboration
  • Desired experience and programming languages:
    • Python experience is required, Git experience is a huge plus
    • Exposure to common deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
    • Exposure to ML cloud infrastructure such as AWS SageMaker and GPU clusters
    • A Scientific mindset:  What’s my hypothesis? Does this result make sense? Does this result pass my sanity checks?

Work Schedule: The ideal candidate would be available for a minimum of 4 months, up to the full 8 month co-op term, working 40 hours a week. LineVision has a standard US holiday schedule, and up to a week of additional unpaid time off is permissible. Upon successful internship or co-op completion, you will be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

Compensation: $30 per hour
