Summary
Brown/Trinity MFA Programs is looking for local carpenters for short-term projects needing extra support during our 2024-2025 Academic calendar year. Under close supervision of the technical director and assistant technical director, the carpenter helps to construct, build, and load the set.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Able to complete tasks given by technical director and assistant technical director
- Uses power tools including table and crosscut saws
- Works with wood, metal, plastics, and other materials
- Understands and interprets working drawings and models
- Develops both standard and non-standard set pieces
- Collects off-site materials
- Repairs the set during the run of the play as needed
- Adheres to safety standards

- Ability to respond to changing circumstances quickly and with a positive attitude

- Ability to work long weeks and evening/weekend hours are typically required when running tech/previews and for assigned projects when on show call
- Basic knowledge of various technical elements of theater (lights, sound, props, sets, etc.)
- Detail-oriented, organized and fastidious
- Must commit to work in a production department centered on anti-racist policies and practices, and to foster and sustain a culture that values community, social justice, and equity
- Excellent follow-through and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma plus a minimum of two years backstage and carpentry experience.
Technical/Computer Skills
- Knowledge of theatrical production practices and procedures
- General knowledge of tools, rigging and building
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to the project at hand
Physical Demands

- Ability to repeatedly move, transport, or position objects weighing up to 50-70 lbs. Either alone or with assistance
- Ability to work safely at heights of up to 20 feet
- Safety equipment may be necessary at times depending on the task
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period
- Must be able to ascend and descend steps, ladders, and scaffolding
