Gallery Fellowship: Dilly Dallin- Where does your mind wander?
Description

Gallery Fellowship Description:

Gallery fellows will learn acrylic painting methods to create and exhibit artworks of their own alongside Artist-in-Residence Nytaya Babbitt. Babbitt was born in Jackson Mississippi where she lived before moving to study illustration in Memphis Tennessee in 2017. After her short tenure there she moved to Cincinnati, OH where she earned her BFA in 2021.

Through her work, Babbitt, focuses on the relationships she builds with others while also leaving room to explore the mundane and how her environment molds her. This exploration centers around self identity and what that means in the context of community. The program asks artists to explore their sense of self and community by becoming more attuned to their surroundings.

Key Learning Goals:

• Artists will be able to engage with community on a more personable level.

• Artists will be pushed to look into the wider meaning of why they make the work that they do.

• Artists will be encouraged to be more observant about their everyday life and how that translates to the work they make.

• Artists will be encouraged to make work through unconventional means of acrylic painting.

• Artists will have the opportunity to create work based off their experiences with community building and engaging with their everyday life.

About the ArtWorks Gallery Fellowship Program

The ArtWorks Gallery Fellowship Program allows teen and young adult artists (ages 16-24) to study the materials and methods of guest Artists-in-Residence in a small educational setting that encourages collaboration and artistic experimentation. Using materials and time in the studio provided for free, participants create their own unique and individual works of art to exhibit in an intentional group show in the ArtWorks V² Gallery. Artists gain exposure and recognition in the local arts community, as well as the opportunity to price and sell work during its exhibition in the ArtWorks V² Gallery. Artists in this program will also learn foundational skills about gallery exhibitions from local curators and museum partners, including how to effectively represent their art through artist statements, gallery talks, opening events, and community events.
