FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $24 – $30 per hour.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for developing a comprehensive Youth Ministry program (Middle-school, Grades 6-8, High School Grades 9-12) including but not limited to catechesis, evangelization, social action, community building. Spirituality, liturgy, guidance, enablement, and advocacy. Develops close communication with and mutual support from families of youth and collaborates with other community and parish youth organizations.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the Confirmation and Middle School faith formation programs, including formal faith formation classes, retreats, and service projects with the approval of the Director.
  • Act as a resource to parish staff on issues related to youth ministry.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of volunteers in the youth ministry program.
  • Provide training for adults and young people in leadership positions.
  • Coordinate the outreach to and evangelization of all young people in the parish.
  • Involve young people in the life of the parish, including serving with various parish ministries and being involved in parish activities.
  • Coordinate a Youth Leadership Team, which is responsible for planning and implementing youth activities and events.
  • Provide appropriate services and programs for parents.
  • Advocate for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry, based on two (2) significant documents, 1996 USCCB document, Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Ministry and Pope Francis, 2019, Christus Vivit.
  • Liaison between the diocesan office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and their programs, services, and resources.
  • Follow all Safe Environment guidelines to ensure the existence of a safe environment for youth for both on and off-site activities as provided by the Diocese of San Diego.
  • Prepare and review the annual budget for the program, under the supervision of the Director of Catechetical Ministry & Evangelization
  • Plan and coordinate Youth Appreciation events in coordination with the Director of Music & Liturgy and the Director of Catechetical Ministry & Evangelization.
  • Required to be on site during working hours.
Requirements
  • Experience working with youth in a Parish Church
  • Active, practicing Catholic 
  • Adherence to the Catholic Church's teachings
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of Catholic Theology
  • Youth Ministry Certification from Diocese of San Diego preferred

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be present in the parish. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the choir loft/section, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
