The Business Record team is seeking a curious, empathetic and self-starter reporter to cover women’s and gender issues for our Fearless initiative, which seeks to empower Iowa women to succeed in work and life. As part of the initiative, we produce a weekly e-newsletter and print features, and we host three virtual events and an in-person celebration annually. 

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Business Record’s special projects editor, this person would be responsible for: 

- Compiling and aggregating the weekly Fearless e-newsletter. (This includes rounding up news from press releases and other news outlets, seeking guest essays and opinion pieces, and writing originally reported stories.) 

- Designing and producing the Fearless e-newsletter in ActiveCampaign, an email content management system. 

- Posting stories and essays to the Fearless website. 

- Reporting a minimum of one original story per week.

- Build and maintain relationships with key sources focused on women’s and gender issues in Iowa.

- Write six features on Iowa women for the annual Fearless edition.

- Conduct an annual survey on the status of gender equity in Iowa, and compile stories from the results. 

- Assist with planning speakers and coverage for three Fearless Focus virtual events and Fearless Annual Celebration.

• Experience in journalism with writing and reporting. (Proficiency with graphic design, social media, photography and digital publishing are all beneficial.) 
• Attention to detail, and ability to uphold high quality, accuracy and ethical standards.
• Diligent with deadlines, timelines and production schedules.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at once.
• Work closely with the design team and photographers to ensure high visual quality.
• Willingness to learn new skills.
• Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism.
• Passion for gender equity with intersectional approach.
