About the Position

The finance department provides critical organizational support to process, track and manage all organizational income and expenses, and to ensure PFI’s financial sustainability and health to carry out its mission. Practical Farmers of Iowa is in an exciting phase of growth, which brings with it a need for increased efficiency of financial processes to control costs, lessen risk and streamline internal processes for clarity and expediency.?? 


We’re seeking a senior grants finance coordinator to manage and assist our growing finance department. This position will support all departments to ensure proper management of private, state and federal funding. In this role, you will upload and import budgets into our finance software; ensure monthly, quarterly and annual reporting is complete; and provide reports and action plans showing grant funding spent down to internal and external users. This position plays a vital role in the success and operation of the organization. 



Duties

  • Oversee staff and contractors who code and enter financial data related?to grants 
  • Design and follow processes to ensure consistent and efficient grant and match accounting rules and send them to the finance director and senior business operations director for approval
  • Track budget variances and help grant spending stay on track 
  • Analyze grant budget and expense data and report results to internal?grant project managers and funders  
  • Design and use data management tools for grant accounting,?including spending controls 
  • Implement periodic grant accounting projects and processes 
  • Build grant workbooks to import into Sylogist according to the grant contract 
  • Prepare all finance reports required by funders and send them to the finance director for approval


Required Qualifications and Characteristics

Desired Qualifications and Characteristics

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with ERP software, Microsoft products (Business Central, Great Plains, SylogistMission, etc.) preferred



This is a full-time position based in our Ames, Iowa, office with potential for a hybrid schedule. This position requires a minimum of two days in the office per week. The salary range for this position is $58,000 to $62,000 with annual opportunity for merit salary increases and position advancement.
