Description

The Commercial Small Business Unit Account Manager serves as the primary business contact for small commercial clients. This role will provide exceptional customer service while balancing the need for efficiency and engaging that customer with the appropriate Service Center when possible. This role focuses on managing and servicing small business insurance accounts, ensuring that clients’ insurance needs are met, renewals are handled efficiently, and relationships are strengthened. The Account Manager will work closely with the Small Commercial Business Unit Team Lead and other internal teams to provide clients with comprehensive insurance solutions.  

Requirements
  • Client Service and Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for small business clients, managing day-to-day account servicing, including policy changes, endorsements, and claims support. 
  • Renewal Management: Handle the entire renewal process for assigned accounts, including preparing renewal proposals, working with underwriters and carriers, and ensuring timely and accurate policy renewals. 
  • New Business Coordination: Putting together quotes and proposals for New Business opportunities that are either coming to the SBU through referrals from other departments at UNICO, referrals from clients, or community contacts. 
  • Client Communication: Maintain proactive communication with clients to address questions, provide guidance, and ensure they understand their coverage options and policy details. 
  • Problem-Solving: Address client concerns or issues, working collaboratively with underwriters, carriers, and internal teams to resolve any challenges and ensure a positive client experience. 
  • Policy Administration: Manage the administrative side of client accounts, including tracking and documenting key information, ensuring accuracy in all policy documentation, and maintaining organized records. 
  • Cross-Selling and Account Expansion: Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional insurance products or expand coverage based on the client’s evolving needs. 
  • Carrier Relationships: Foster strong working relationships with insurance carriers, ensuring access to competitive products and timely processing of account requests. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Small Commercial Business Unit Team Lead, and other internal team members to deliver seamless service and customized solutions to clients. 

Skills | Abilities 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex insurance concepts to clients clearly and concisely. 
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize client needs. 
  • Experience working in a client-facing role, with a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality service. 
  • Proficiency with insurance agency management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proven track record of successful client advocacy in a fast-paced environment, emphasizing attention to detail. 
  • Ability to follow up on activities from start to finish. 
  • Ability to pass background check requirements by Insurance Companies to be appointed 

Professional Requirements 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Insurance, related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in commercial insurance account management, focusing on small business accounts. Knowledge of small commercial insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and carrier processes. 
  • Licensure: Current P&C insurance license, or willingness and ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. 

Physical Demands 

  • This role’s physical exertion is sedentary and occurs in an office environment.  
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  
  • Substantial movements and repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.  
  • Individuals must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer, and extensive reading.
