Reports To: Vice Principal and Dean of Students
Hours: Part-time, Average of 20-25 hours per week, starting November 2024
Job Summary: The maternity leave part-time guidance counselor provides academic counseling and advisement as well as social and emotional support to Wheaton Academy students, in concert with the mission and goals of Wheaton Academy
Essential Roles and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provide general counseling related to academic placement and intervention needs.
2. Assist with creating Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) and lead / co-lead ISP meetings with ISP families.
3. Manage a caseload of students to ensure ISPs are being met in the classroom.
4. Collaborate with classroom teachers in implementation of student ISPs.
5. Modify curriculum and write tests for students who have extended absences.
6. Provide general counseling during the school day regarding social/ emotional concerns and provide referrals for long term counseling or psychological testing as needed.
7. Develop curriculum and support structures (groups, etc.) for student emotional health issues (eating disorders, grief, anxiety, etc.).
8. Lead a therapeutic group or groups during the school day.
9. In coordination with the Student Services Department, assist with the administration of school SAT/ PSAT testing.
10. With the Student Services department, guide students with class registration.

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in school counseling and/or Type 73 school guidance certificate; one year to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
