Join the Delta Dental of Iowa team as a Marketing and Communications Intern and you will help create compelling content, engage our audience and drive our brand forward. This is an opportunity to provide broad communications support focused on content creation, planning and team coordination. You will gain hands on experience assisting the communications team with internal communications, event planning, writing, coordinating a weekly internal newsletter, creating social media posts, and other marketing communications projects.

Seeking candidates available to start in January 2025 to work part-time during spring semester with the possibility to work full-time through the summer. This in-person internship is located in Johnston, Iowa with limited ability to work from home.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop project, event, and volunteer management skills by assisting with volunteer initiatives and event logistics and promotions. Ensure deadlines are met and tasks are organized.
  • Create content by writing and editing marketing materials such as blog posts, social media content and weekly internal newsletter.
  • Coordinate social media activities by creating and scheduling posts, monitoring engagement and helping grow Delta Dental’s online presence. 
  • Gain exposure to web communications by assisting with website postings, contributing to a redesign project, and supporting a new internal intranet initiative. 
  • Build communication and networking skills. Assist with communicating the impact and work of Delta Dental of Iowa and build a network of contacts.
  • Engage in programs and networking opportunities to strengthen business acumen in the insurance industry. 
  • Support internship program by motivating and driving participation among intern peers to fully engage with opportunities available throughout the summer.
  • Represent Delta Dental of Iowa as well as the other Delta Dental companies in a professional manner both internally and externally.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

  1. Must be a Junior or Senior undergraduate student working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, English, Mass Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design or related field; graduate student working toward an MBA or related degree; or recent graduate looking for a temporary position January through August.
  2. Must be able to demonstrate current 3.0 GPA or higher through transcripts.
  3. Must be registered as a student to college or university for the 2025 Spring session. Will also consider Fall 2024 graduates.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  5. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and video preferred.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including social media, reports and presentations.
  7. Strong critical thinking skills.
  8. Self-motivated to learn and ability to work independently and with diverse teams.
  9. Travel and overnight stay may be required.
  10. Must have a car, related insurance and valid unencumbered driver’s license.
  11. Participants will be required to submit a written analysis of project work and present a summary of analysis to leadership at the end of the program.
  12. This position requires successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test.
