ACEEE, a leading national research organization based in Washington, DC, seeks a freight manager to lead a groundbreaking project focusing on deploying infrastructure to reduce emissions in medium- and heavy-duty freight transportation. Our efforts drive policy and program innovation among local and state governments, utilities, and critical private-sector stakeholders.

Position Description: 


The freight manager will be a member of ACEEE’s transportation program, focusing on zero-emission freight technologies and infrastructure investment. You will work across federal, state, and local agencies, contributing to key infrastructure decisions that will accelerate the shift to a cleaner freight system.


ACEEE’s transportation program covers a variety of topics: electrification of freight and passenger vehicles, better integrated land use and transportation policy, stringent fuel efficiency standards, and improved multimodal transportation infrastructure. The freight manager will lead research initiatives and be responsible for establishing strategic partnerships and engaging key stakeholders, with guidance from the program director. The freight manager will supervise projects and project teams, with the potential to directly manage transportation associates.

Requirements

  

Core Responsibilities: 


  • Leads financial analysis and conducts economic modeling, performs cost projections and lifecycle cost analysis to inform infrastructure investments and decision-making
  • Project-manages others contributing to research initiatives
  • Collaborates with other ACEEE teams and external partners on multi-sector projects 
  • Leads committee and working group meetings 
  • Writes blog posts and develops presentations


Expectations:


  • Expertise in financial and economic analysis for transportation sustainability, multimodal transportation, freight transportation, and/or transportation electrification 
  • Skilled at forming research questions; designing and executing rigorous research methodologies; collecting secondary data and information; writing up findings and formulating recommendations based on findings 
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, articulate, and thoughtful 
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to cross-disciplinary research and teams 
  • Ability to simultaneously manage several complex, fast-paced, multi-partner projects 
  • Superb organizational and project management skills 
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills 


Qualifications: 


  • Demonstrated passion for clean energy and environmental issues 
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and disseminate large amounts of data and information 
  • Experience facilitating learning across networks or working groups of peer organizations, stakeholders, or representatives from diverse organizations/communities 
  • Professionalism, poise, and the ability to work as part of a team, maintain a sense of humor, and interact with a diverse array of people, including high-level stakeholders 
  • Excellent project management skills, including facilitation and attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral (including public speaking and presentations) 

  

Required Education and Experience: 


  • A degree in transportation economics, finance, public policy, or a related field 

        - Bachelor’s degree with seven years of experience, or

        - Master’s degree and at least five years of experience, or 

        - PhD and at least two years of experience

  • Lead author on at least one complex research project
  • Supervisory and management skills and additional years of experience for the upper half of the salary range


Preferred start date: December 2024 or January 2025. The position can be located in Washington, DC, or remote (US Only). 


Salary: This is a full-time, exempt position. The expected salary is $90,000, with the range of $80,000 – $115,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. ACEEE’s generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike-share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
