Hudson Institute seeks a government relations associate to assist on all activities related to Hudson Institute’s interaction with government officials in the United States and abroad. This position demands a personable, highly organized individual with excellent communication skills and a deep interest in current events. This is a full-time position based out of Hudson’s Washington, DC office, reporting to the vice president of government relations.

Essential Position Responsibilities
The government relations associate will facilitate the implementation of numerous Hudson Institute initiatives designed to inform policymakers and other pertinent officials on a wide range of issues. These activities involve frequent contact with Congress, the executive branch, foreign embassies, and other relevant domestic and international organizations. Under the supervision of the vice president of government relations, the government relations associate:
- Manages the contact information of key administration and congressional officials and staff involved in the public policy process.
- Organizes bipartisan briefings and discussions (via workshops, symposiums, one-on-one meetings, etc.) to promote constructive dialogue and policy development.
- Cultivates and manages collaborative working relationships within the policy community.
- Attends congressional hearings and prepares occasional memos summarizing key points of discussion.
- Tracks key dates on the congressional and administration calendars (major committee hearings, floor votes, foreign dignitaries visiting the US, overseas travel by congressional and administration officials, etc.).
- Drafts correspondence (invitations to members of Congress and senior administration officials, etc.).
- Conducts research on policy proposals and other matters, as needed.
Successful performance in this position involves consistent, high-level fulfillment of each and every duty described above. Additional requirements and/or qualifications for the position include:
- Commitment to Hudson Institute’s mission and supporting the work of the Institute’s scholars and staff.
- Knowledge of executive branch organization, congressional committee structure, and legislative process.
- A broad network of contacts on Capitol Hill is a plus.
- Demonstrated good judgment, an entrepreneurial spirit, and strong interpersonal and writing skills.
- Highly organized and excellent time and project management skills.
- Technologically savvy.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with others—including Hudson’s senior management, fellows, and staff.
- Commitment to acting with integrity and the utmost professionalism .
