Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading local hunger-relief organization in the state with locations in Milwaukee and Appleton. Founded in 1982 by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a local and independent member of the Feeding America network. Driven by our mission to solve hunger, we are bringing more people together around the table to collaboratively address the root causes of hunger. Together with our network partners, we serve nearly half a million food-insecure people across 35 counties in eastern Wisconsin each year.       


JOB PURPOSE:   

The Director of Health System Partnerships is responsible for coordinating Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s (FAEW) efforts to improve the health of those experiencing food insecurity in Eastern Wisconsin. This position will cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with healthcare organizations, insurance companies, network partners, community leaders, and vulnerable communities, building alliances that are essential to advancing our mission and promoting health equity across our programs. This role requires a clear understanding of the social determinants of health, the health needs of vulnerable communities, and forward thinking to develop impactful connections and solutions. This position represents a critical step for properly addressing health among our food insecure neighbors and helping them live healthier, more stable, and self-sustaining lives. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with the healthcare sector.
  • Identify opportunities within the healthcare sector to increase access to nutritious food.
  • Cultivate and maintain philanthropic support to ensure program models are resourced appropriately and all grant requirements are met. 
  • Maintain a portfolio of health system partners and prospects by proactively creating and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to make gifts of $5,000+ to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin
  • Create and execute a fundraising plan for donors in their portfolio and refresh annually
  • Develop customized strategies and moves management plans for donors in portfolio.
  • Engage donors in meetings; with an expectation to hold 3-5 donor meetings weekly in person and/or via phone/video conference.
  • Write customized proposals, presentations, and stewardship reports for major donors
  • Plan strategy and capture notes and next steps in Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Meet regularly with CDO and CSSO to assess plans, review strategies and track progress.
  • Carry out or collaborate on program strategies/initiatives, conducting assessments as needed, evaluating outcomes, impact and potential for replication.
  • Collaboratively create content for internal and external communication platforms.
  • Partner across internal departments to collaborate on inclusive program models to assess alignment and opportunities for FAEW.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community and public health related policies, initiatives, research, and local and national news related to social determinants of health and food insecurity.
  • Develop strategic relationships to collaborate on current and future projects.
  • Listens to communities and brings forward learnings about health equity to support evolution of FAEW’s programs and services.
  • Provide statewide support for Health/Hunger initiatives.
  • Create and deliver presentations to health organizations and community stakeholders about FAEW and the connection between nutrition security and health.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Commitment to understand and support FAEW’s mission, vision, and effective actions to end food insecurity and its causes. 
  • Respect for the people FAEW serves and commitment to learn the causes of their food insecurity and need. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent work experience (Preferred, not required)
  • Three or more years’ experience in the healthcare sector and business development or nonprofit fundraising, preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, analytical, decision making, and interpersonal skills.   
  • Ability to work at a fast pace with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.  
  • Excellent communications, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.  
  • Must be comfortable addressing groups of 10 or more. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and database programs. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be open-minded of differing opinions and views. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance that meets Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s liability requirements and transportation to travel to work sites. 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
