General Summary: This position is responsible for monitoring the preventative maintenance program; including inspection of equipment and consulting with managers and vendors on maintenance and repairs of equipment to insure company standards are maintained. Must consistently utilize good judgment in an effort to maximize equipment dependability through the most cost effective methods. This position also directs and coordinates activities of transportation compliance to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel, and works cooperatively with Operations, Mechanical, Environmental, Purchasing and Personnel Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review all purchase requisitions for equipment parts and service to make certain cost effectiveness is practiced at all times
- Review credit card transaction and ensure they have detailed invoice attached, coded to the proper account/accounts
- Ensures purchases policies are adhered to, i.e. 3 quotes when possible on repairs, requisitions requested prior to work being performed
- Inspects equipment for conformance to operational standards
- Monitors oil samples and repair orders for assigned divisions
- Monitor exception reports and ensure mechanical and division are working to reduce the number of exceptions on a monthly basis
- Helps administer maintenance policies and procedures at field locations and job sites
- Resolve maintenance issues and recommend measures to improve operations and condition of equipment
- Assists with direction and development of Mechanical Service Managers
- Assists in procuring materials, supplies and services in required quantities for requested deliveries at the proper price
- Helps develop and implement programs in conjunction with managers to ensure the mechanical reliability of our equipment
- Monitors and keeps current on manufacturer's specifications, policies and warranty programs
- Assists with orientation and training of new employees
- Recommends the model and specifications of replacement equipment needs
- Recommends equipment location changes
- Confers and cooperates with other management personnel in formulating administrative and operational policies and procedures
- Prepares recommendations designed to assure compliance
- Directs compliance of workers with established company transportation policies, procedures, and standards
- Reviews operational records and reports and refers to manuals, company instructions, and government regulations to detect deviations from operational practices and prepares directives to eliminate such infractions
- Investigates incidents and inspects equipment to ensure that adequate protection exists for company assets, property, and equipment.
- Inspects company vehicles and equipment for evidence of abuse.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related Mechanical field - or equivalent related mechanical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (fleet/equipment management).
Experience Requirements:
- 5 years related mechanical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (fleet/equipment management)
- Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in safety related field.
Knowledge/ Skills:
- Management: Intermediate skills managing large fleets with multiple locations.
- Communications: Strong verbal and written skills – with the ability to communicate technical information to all types of people
- Computer: Intermediate skills using Microsoft excel, word, PowerPoint, and various other computer based programs. Must have experience in building tracking models.
- Technical: Intermediate mechanical background – trouble shooting & diagnostics.
- Public Speaking: Must be able to give presentations to large groups.
- Judgment & reasoning: Intermediate experience in managing people & equipment must show proficiency in decisions making process under pressure.
- Coaching & Counseling: Strong coaching and counseling skills.
- Safety: Must be safety conscious.
- Team player & Team building: Must be able to show proficiency in being a team player and a team builder
- Leadership: Intermediate leadership skills – 5 years’ experience background in fleet/equipment management.
- Planning: Must have minimum 2 years’ experience managing multiple locations, as well as experience planning & maintaining budgets.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Physical Demands: The employee must be able to work in a standard office environment and operate a computer, and may occasionally need to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Extended standing, walking and also climbing up, down and around various types of equipment during inspections
Travel up to 50% to 75% of the time, including nights and weekends.
Working Conditions: Standard indoor office environment, this job entails frequent travel to Division Headquarters and job sites that may cause exposure to variable up to extreme outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and other job site conditions.
