This is based at our production facility located in Point Reyes, CA.


JOB TITLE 

QA Technician


JOB DESCRIPTION

The QA Technician shall assist production staff with the completion of daily make sheets, operational checklists, and cheese logs, and shall assist the QA Manager with the completion of QA documents and checklists. The QA Technician shall report any issues or concerns with cheese quality or process to QA Manager and Plant Manager at time of observation. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Maintenance and operation of pH meter, including reviewing daily pH values to ensure machine is fully operational and assisting cheesemakers with regular cleaning and calibration

· Appropriate record-keeping of all ingredients and QA supplies (inventory, lot numbers, significant dates, CoAs

· Working alongside the QA Manager to complete swabbing, product testing, pre-operational and post-operational inspections

· In-process testing of cheesemaking samples and equipment

· Assisting with the completion of monthly internal audits

· Assist in writing SOP’s and SSOP’s for both production facilities in Petaluma and Point Reyes and assisting with regular updates and revisions of these documents

· Physical inventory management 

· Conducting trainings with new hires and annual trainings with existing staff members

· Supporting the HR department in bi-weekly safety trainings 

· Following all GMP's, and SOP's along with company Safety & Quality Plan

· Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

· Excellent Customer Service Skills (Internally & Externally)

· Must be attentive to detail and have good organizational skills

· Must be familiar and comfortable with machinery; food production and/or dairy plant experience is helpful

· Good oral and written communication skills

· Strong independent work habits 

· Ability to create an independent work schedule and report to QA Manager on progress and completion of assigned tasks

· Knowledge and experience in cheesemaking and milk theory

· Computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment—must include Microsoft Excel and skills in database management and record keeping

· Ability to deliver cheese that meets all company quality and safety specifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the responsibilities of the QA Technician, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift, transport, pull and push up to 50 pounds regularly. Must be able to regularly stand, walk, lift Carry, Push, Pull, Climb, Bend, and perform other general duties. Be physically able to work an eight (8) hour day or more while on your feet as this position will spend 90% of the time standing. Climbing, reaching, walking, sitting, grasping, repetitive motions, visual acuity, and hearing. 

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED DAYS OF WORK

This is currently a full time position. Days and hours of work must be flexible, weekends may be required

TRAVEL

Some travel between our two production facilities may be required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Pasteurizer license

· Specialized training in cheese production and some cheese making experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Certified Cheese Professional 

· BS in Food Science or Microbiologyce.
