Description

The Library Access Services Specialist will provide customer support for library patrons, primarily students, in locating and accessing library materials. Provides virtual and face-to-face customer support at the library, serving as patrons' first point of contact. As the first point of contact for many users, the Specialist will provide essential support in triaging and routing requests for library services and resources. For simple directional and information requests and requests for the circulation of materials, the Specialist will provide a response. 


Responsibilities: 

  • Provide virtual and face-to-face support to users in finding materials and instruct library users on using the library catalog, discovery service, and databases.
  •  Triages information requests to the appropriate library and College units and engages.
  •  Refer complex issues to librarians or external units and services.
  •  Provide front-line support at the library service desk
  •  Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned for the library services desk
  •  Assist patrons with directional requests in locating materials
  •  Check library materials in and out, follow up with overdue materials
  •  Process interlibrary loan requests
  • Assist patrons using library technologies, including the integrated library system, printers and copiers, and reading machines.
  • Perform daily collections maintenance by reshelving materials per the Library of Congress Call Number system, shelving current periodicals, and straightening and cleaning the reading room and collection storage areas.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements
  • Associate's degree or Higher is required.  
  •  At least one year of experience performing duties similar to those described.
  •  Experience providing customer services, ideally at a library.
  •  Physically able to lift and shelve books (10 lbs maximum).
  •  Physically able to stoop down to lower shelves and use a step stool to reach top shelves
  •  Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  •  Strong interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
