Description

LAC Federal is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Reference Librarian to join our team. As a Reference Librarian, you will provide essential reference services, manage data curation, and ensure the efficient operation of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) library. Responsibilities

  • Support a science-based federal agency by managing the acquisition, organization, and maintenance of both physical and digital catalog collections.
  • Develop and implement preservation strategies to ensure long-term access and usability of all resources.
  • Create and manage metadata and taxonomies to facilitate efficient cataloging, searching, and retrieval of resources.
  • Provide training and guidance to library staff and users on effectively using physical and digital library resources.
  • Collaborate with subject librarians to support digital scholarship initiatives and enhance research and teaching activities.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in digital librarianship and information management to continuously improve library services.
  • Participate in additional duties, including tracking usage statistics, assisting with special projects, and other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • 1-3 years of experience in reference librarianship.
  • Demonstrated expertise in transforming complex research inquiries into concise, clear, and accurate responses.
  • Familiarity with digital preservation standards and practices in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency in metadata and taxonomy creation for digital collections.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and prioritization skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move around the office, lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds (occasionally up to 35 pounds).Ability to sit for prolonged periods while maintaining focus on detailed projects, such as working on computer screens or handling paperwork.
