The Opportunity


As the Director of Patient Access, you will play a key role in optimizing the front-end revenue cycle functions within hospitals and health systems, specifically focusing on patient access operations. This includes developing and implementing strategies to improve scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and financial counseling. The Director will act as a trusted advisor to clients, driving operational efficiencies, improving patient experience, and maximizing revenue integrity at the point of entry.

In this role, you’ll bring a data-driven approach to enhance patient access functions, leveraging industry best practices and Healthrise’s robust methodology to elevate client performance.

  

Key Responsibilities

In the role of Director of Patient Access, you will:

  • Patient  Access Strategy and Consulting:
    • Lead consulting initiatives in patient access, including scheduling, preregistration, insurance verification, and financial counseling to enhance operational efficiency and the patient experience.
    • Identify barriers to excellence in patient access and provide actionable insights and solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs.
    • Analyze client data to identify trends and opportunities in patient access, crafting improvement strategies that align with both revenue integrity and patient satisfaction goals.
  • Optimization and Best Practice Implementation:
    • Design and implement best practices to streamline the registration and scheduling workflows, minimizing denials and maximizing revenue capture at the front-end.
    • Evaluate client operations against industry benchmarks, recommending improvements that reduce wait times, optimize staff productivity, and improve pre-service collection rates.
    • Create a proactive approach to denial prevention by addressing gaps in patient access processes, such as real-time eligibility verification and accurate demographic capture.
  • Project Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Lead project teams and work closely with client revenue cycle teams to ensure smooth implementation of Healthrise initiatives.
    • Develop work plans and manage project timelines and budgets to meet Healthrise’s standards for quality and client satisfaction.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including financial counseling, billing, and IT, to integrate patient access solutions with downstream revenue cycle processes.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Establish performance metrics and monitoring systems to measure the impact of implemented changes, providing ongoing support to clients to sustain improvements.
    • Deliver executive-level presentations and progress reports to client stakeholders, offering insights into operational performance, key challenges, and long-term improvement opportunities.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with client executives and revenue cycle leaders, serving as an advisor on patient access and front-end revenue cycle challenges.

Candidate Profile

The ideal Director of Patient Access will possess a deep understanding of patient access operations and front-end revenue cycle functions. You must have extensive experience in project or program management within healthcare consulting, with a focus on patient access.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or related advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in project or program management, with a background in healthcare revenue cycle management, specifically patient access.
    • 5+ years in healthcare consulting, ideally in a director-level or leadership role.
    • Prior experience in a hospital revenue cycle role, particularly in patient access or registration leadership (Director or Supervisor level preferred).
  • Technical and Industry Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of patient access workflows, including registration, scheduling, and insurance verification.
    • Demonstrated expertise in reducing registration errors, optimizing preregistration processes, and enhancing pre-service collections.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to drive patient access improvements.
    • Familiarity with patient access technologies and EHR systems that support front-end revenue cycle functions.
