We have an opening for an experienced industry veteran with a passion for building to join our team as a Construction Executive. This position will provide expertise, mentorship, and guidance to all field staff in the Central Virginia region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Field Operations Leadership & Support
- Act as the "voice of the field" by identifying personnel concerns, execution challenges, and areas for process improvement
- Provide oversight, mentoring, training, and development for field staff, supporting their career growth and readiness for increased responsibilities
- Assist Superintendents in coaching team members and promoting internal career development
- Facilitate knowledge transfer, sharing lessons learned, and providing expertise training to develop job site management skills
- Foster a team culture aligned with Hourigan’s mission and values
- Field Manpower Management
- Collaborate with the Operations Business Unit Leader to monitor field staffing levels, ensuring alignment with project needs, budget, and schedule
- Contribute to recruitment and hiring decisions for Superintendents and other field staff within the region
- Project Acquisition & Planning
- Partner with Client Solutions, Preconstruction, and Operations to define the project team
- Provide input on General Conditions, site logistics, pricing, and participate in subcontractor pre-award evaluations
- Review design development documents, provide input on site logistics plans, and assist in lead schedule development (e.g., pull planning, red zone rallies)
- Project planning and execution oversight
- Ensure the Hourigan brand is maintained on all project sites within the region
- Act as a leader of the Hourigan Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) by committing to safe work practices, raising concerns, attending and applying safety and health training, and eliminating hazards within your capability and control and the help of safety staff
- Provide resources and support to ensure positive safety and health outcomes in line with the Hourigan SHMS; ensure adherence to all safety standards by all personnel
- Lead the quality control program and ensure adherence to all quality control standards
- Oversee the execution of field means and methods, recommend process improvements, and ensure procedural compliance
- Contribute to planning site logistics, construction operations, and complex procedures
- Regularly visit job sites to assess progress, review schedules, reports, and collaborate with project teams on quality and safety
- Verify project milestones are met, assist field staff with task management, and provide guidance when progress deviates from the plan
- Help resolve construction conflicts with creative, timely solutions
- Assist in addressing warranty claims, developing action plans, and monitoring corrective actions
- Ensure profitability through efficient field operations and productivity
- Identify recurring issues with trade partners and provide feedback to Preconstruction and Senior Leadership
- Relationship Management
- Regularly participate in project kick-off meetings, OAC meetings, and subcontractor meetings
- Maintain strong relationships with key subcontractor field managers to ensure proper resource loading, quality, and safety
- Assistmproject partners with input on issues needing subject matter expertise
- Build and nurture relationships with existing and new trade partners and vendor
Qualifications and Experience:
- B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 20+ years of industry experience in general contracting
- Previous experience leading a team and mentoring others
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with Procore and Bluebeam preferred
- Extensive experience and knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, materials, divisions of work, scheduling, and a thorough understanding of industry practices
