GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Design Center Manager plays a vital role in supporting the company’s success and growth strategies. Reporting to the Executive VP, this role ensures a premier visual and emotional experience for customers selecting their natural stone and countertop materials. As the outward face of the company, the Design Center Manager exemplifies the Classic Rock experience, balancing relationship building with vendors, negotiating pricing, and sourcing top-quality materials aligned with the latest trends.
This role requires exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, offering creative solutions and translating them into action. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Center Supervision
- Staff the Design Center with receiving and design specialists as required.
- Supervise the Design Center team in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
- Provide leadership through mentoring, coaching, counseling, and goal setting to ensure motivation and employee satisfaction.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations and issue improvement plans as needed.
- Manage scheduling and allocate resources for Design Center staff.
- Develop job process documentation for Design Center roles.
- Enforce and promote adherence to safety standards, including OSHA and company compliance requirements.
- Ensure all new and existing employees receive proper safety training and are held accountable.
Design Center Management
- Maintain strong awareness of current industry trends and apply them within the Design Center.
- Convey passion for natural stone, prioritizing it over other materials when assisting customers in their selection process.
- Host customer appointments and consult with them to understand project requirements and desired aesthetics.
- Utilize consultative selling techniques to guide customer decisions.
- Maintain a well-organized and fully stocked Design Center, including proper display and arrangement of stone and quartz samples.
- Manage the slab gallery, updating selections to align with trends and customer preferences.
- Oversee inventory and order materials as needed, including natural stone and quartz samples.
- Coordinate deliveries with vendors and receiving staff.
- Manage material holds, reservations, and sales through SPS, ensuring accurate labeling.
- Work closely with the Purchasing Manager to assess material needs based on customer selections.
- Oversee customer selection processes, ensuring accurate communication with Partner Support Specialists.
- Handle SlabSmith appointments, leveraging available programming and technology.
- Requote jobs based on customer selections.
- Assist with material receiving and inventory management when necessary.
- Process material sales reports and update the transfer list.
- Maintain and update half-slab displays.
Design Center Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, including data on appointments, walk-ins, and events.
- Maintain and manage inventory of supplies and purchase orders for the Design Center.
- Adhere to corporate branding and Design Center standards.
- Foster an organizational culture that prioritizes quality, communication, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties to support corporate goals and the company’s mission.
Design Center Events
- Plan and host round-table events and training sessions, offering customer education on relevant topics.
- Create content, presentations, and marketing materials aligned with Classic Rock’s branding.
- Organize logistics, including food, supplies, and content for all events.
- Manage and restock the Design Center bar as necessary.
- Enforce the Social Functions Policy and ensure guest compliance.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a minimum of four years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively speak before groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Proficient in calculating rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and manage concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regular physical activities include standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and handling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- No special vision requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
