SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for evaluating property, meeting clients, acquiring consignments, building relationships, generating and responding to leads, and participating in catalog production and sales processes, among other duties.   


LOCATION: Seeking candidates in Chicago, Dallas, Palm Beach, New York City, and Los Angeles. Major cities are not specific, need to be near a major airport.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate based on experience.  $60,000 - $100,000  
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties as may be assigned.

  • Evaluate property and establish auction estimates.
  • Acquire consignments through HA and individually generated leads.
  • Travel as needed to meet with clients and review the property for potential consignment.
  • Assist in the research, authentication, and cataloguing of property.
  • Write essays on select lots
  • Proof catalog text and images, consignment and bidding emails, and advertising copy
  • Market lots in auctions to various clients.
  • Contribute to the expansion of the client database.
  • Answer inquiries before, during, and after the auction.
  • Actively participate in auctions.
Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in a major auction house preferred and/or as a commercial dealer 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have excellent research skills in resources necessary for European works of art
  • Reading knowledge of French is preferred
  • Knowledge in assessing and describing conditions under UV and in daylight.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; the ability to multitask; and be detail-oriented; have a positive attitude; and good customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn; work well with a team
  • Ability to follow set standards and take direction
  • Ability to analyze and propose solutions to problems
  • Absolute drive to complete projects on time and in a detailed manner
  • Excellent organizational skills: accurate and thorough
