Our Collection Development Team is searching for a Collection Development Librarian. This position is remote and is not limited to MD. The Collection Development Librarian is responsible for selecting materials for LS&S managed libraries and selected LIQ libraries in designated collection area(s). For this role we are seeking someone who will select Adult Fiction and Spanish materials for all ages.
Salary : $59,000
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Perform all duties related to materials selection for assigned areas in all assigned libraries
- Follow the profile for 20+ libraries for assigned collection areas for LS&S managed libraries and selected LibraryIQ libraries
- Select materials, research collections, and grid lists to create orders for all assigned libraries on a set schedule
- Maintain accurate financial records for materials expenditures and report required monthly statistics
- Review orders prepared by library staff for a sub-set of the library budget to ensure accuracy before submitting to the vendor
- Contribute communication pieces related to collection development to our internal Opal resource center.
- Become proficient in using LibraryIQ analytics for all aspects of duties and work with library staff as they use this collection management tool
- Attend all department meetings, webinars and collection development workshops and conferences as assigned
- Keep current in aspects of Collection Development by attending appropriate in-person and online professional development opportunities and reading professional level communications
- Know, understand and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library; in addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- MLS/MLIS required
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in public libraries required or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in selecting materials for physical public library collections.
- Spanish language proficiency preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines while staying organized and responsive to internal and external customers
- · Proficient technical skills, including a familiarity with Windows, Microsoft (specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word), and knowledge of various technologies such as time-management and organization tools.
- Experience with collection development software such as LibraryIQ, Edelweiss, CollectionHQ, or similar preferred; experience or knowledge of integrated library systems (ILS) software (working knowledge of Polaris and Polaris Acquisitions a plus)
- Versatility, flexibility and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of good collection development and collection maintenance
- · Access to high-speed, reliable Internet
- Must have the ability and willingness to develop relationships across all levels of the organization
- Team collaboration, strong work ethic and excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, via formal presentations, electronically or through other means to individuals or groups
- Willingness to travel when required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork
