The Collections team is looking for a part time Copy Cataloger! The Copy Cataloger is responsible for performing primarily copy cataloging, occasional original MARC record creation, loading MARC records from vendors, and providing maintenance of the online catalog for LS&S managed libraries and selected LIQ libraries.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Perform copy and occasional original cataloging of library materials in all formats; as needed, interpret and apply LCSH, DDC, AACR2, RDA and other cataloging and classification standards
- Keep records of all cataloging requests for follow-up and statistics
- Load MARC record files from multiple vendors and remove
- on-order records
- Track and report statistics monthly
- Consult with library and Collection Support Staff to resolve cataloging and database issues
- Use online cataloging resources as reference materials and for professional development purposes
- Perform database maintenance tasks as assigned
- Attend all department meetings, webinars and cataloging workshops as assigned
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- Prior experience working in a library or information center.
- Experience with library cataloging standards such as MARC, AACR2, RDA, DDC and LCSH
- Proficiency in using integrated library systems (ILS) and cataloging software. Knowledge of Polaris ILS a plus.
- Comfort with navigating and searching online bibliographic databases.
- College-level coursework in cataloging desired
- Ability to work independently and manage own time effectively
- Access to high-speed, reliable Internet
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with both internal and external customers in person, on the phone, or through other electronic means (email, text, etc.)
- Ability to work well with diverse staff
24 hours a week position $17/hr
Physical Requirements Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork. Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials
