Pay Band:                   7 (seeking license); 9 (non supervisory)

Salary Range:             $58,240 - $79,040 (pay band 7) BOE; $66,560 - $85,280 (pay band 9) BOE

Supervisor:                Director of Early Childhood/School-Linked Services

Location:                    Offsite including Mesabi East Schools, Ely Schools, and Virginia area schools

Job Summary:

The School Based Therapist provides initial and comprehensive evaluations, treatment plan development and review, psychotherapy, crisis assistance, and case consultation. The therapist works closely with school staff, mental health practitioners, and families to provide psychoeducation and to collaborate on progress towards treatment goals. This position is based in the schools.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete comprehensive evaluation for children and adolescents, in compliance with RMHC and CCBHC standards
  • Develop individual treatment plans for children in collaboration with families and other service providers. Review and update treatment goals and treatment plan every 180 days
  • Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy to children and their family
  • Respond to and provide crisis assistance and intervention as needed
  • Complete clinical documentation and other medically necessary documentation in the RMHC electronic health record, as required by agency policy and DHS standards in a timely manner
  • Complete all required standardized measurement tools for children and adolescents
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with families, schools, professionals, and collaborating agencies
  • Provide program information, consultation, and in-service training to school staff as needed.
  • Attend Multidisciplinary, Program, and School Meetings and trainings as directed
  • Effectively collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring well-coordinated care and clinically appropriate referrals with families, school, and other service agencies
  • Work a schedule sufficient to meet the needs of the school district(s) assigned
  • Provide culturally competent and appropriate treatment services to youth and their families
  • Attend trainings as required by RMHC and the Department of Human Services to meet both minimum training requirements and mandated training
  • Communicate with Clinical Supervisor regarding issues and updates for the people we serve as required by Department of Human Services and RMHC
  • Follow all Federal guidelines in accordance with the Department of Labor’s statutes and laws and any other regulatory agencies
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Able to compose and record professional quality comprehensive Evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes in a timely fashion on a personal computer
  • Ability to provide family systems based, person centered individual, family and group therapy services at or above the agency’s expected performance level
  • Ability to build/maintain strong working relationships with collaborating agencies and partners
  • Able to handle sensitive situations in a calm, professional manner and manage crisis situations.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Flexible and able to prioritize workload and maintain organization
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of interactions with the people we support
  • Understanding of local and state mental health resources and systems
  • Understanding/knowledge of agency and DHS records and billing compliance
  • Philosophical approach consistent with the Range Mental Health Center’s mission

Education and Experience:

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in, Social Work, Family Therapy or one of the behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university. Maintain appropriate credentials as a Licensed Mental Health Professional in the state of Minnesota.
  • Experience Required: Two years post degree experience in social work, psychology or related fields with appropriate clinical supervision, licensed or on track to be licensed as a mental health professional in MN, and ability to be credentialed by insurance companies.  Experience providing individual and family treatment to youth with a SED/ED diagnosis.
  • Experience Preferred: Experience in the delivery of School-Based Mental Health Services and collaboration with school systems and special education services. Education in Family Systems Theory. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
  • Adequate level of vision to use computer terminal.
  • Sufficient hearing to accurately record information received verbally.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
