Under the direction of the Senior Facilities Manager, the Traveling Maintenance Technician supports ECR facilities throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs by focusing on maintenance and safety needs in a proactive manner. The Traveling Maintenance Technician provides coverage for planned and unplanned absences of student safety staff, facilities maintenance staff, and day porters at ECR locations, assists with day-to-day facilities operations, and maintains the physical assets of Easterseals properties.


This role is ideal for someone who respects children and families with diverse values and cultures and is passionate about helping uphold the highest levels of safety and security for ECR’s students, clients, and employees.


This is a multilocation position, based at the ECR’s Chicago location (1939 W 13th Street, Chicago, IL 60608), but responsible for traveling to and addressing maintenance, safety and security issues at ECR’s other facilities in the Chicago and greater Rockford areas.


MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Complete facilities maintenance service requests and grounds work as directed by the Senior Facilities Manager.
  • Utilizes ECR’s facilities ticketing system to track progress on work orders and regularly report progress back to the Senior Facilities Manager and key stakeholders. 
  • Submits recommendations for facility improvements within expense limits. 
  • Coordinates and monitors work performed by outside contractors.
  • Shares environmental safety information with leadership throughout the organization starting with the Senior Facilities Manager.
  • Maintains a professional, courteous demeanor with all contractors, employees, and students.
  • Assures safety standards are adhered to and comply with all company, local, city, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Completes all work in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner.
  • Follows established company policies and procedures.
  • Provide coverage for planned and unplanned absences of student safety staff, facility maintenance staff, and day porters, as needed.
  • Participate in a Saturday rotation for safety staff coverage at the Chicago campus.
  • Travels to various site locations as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of facilities maintenance experience
  • Security and/or life safety experience preferred

Required Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Teams

Vehicle/Transportation Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Auto insurance
  • Reliable vehicle

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fluid and often demanding environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to think critically with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift 50 to 100 pounds as needed.
