JOB SUMMARY

The Flooring Service Technician is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Operations Manager or Service Manager with the responsibility to repair or assess flooring jobs in an efficient, cost effective manner that will maximize job profitability while adhering to company policies and procedures. The typical schedule is an 8-hour daytime shift, Monday to Friday. Service Technicians are expected to provide their own hand tools, but specialty tools are provided by the company (meters, test equipment).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Travel to commercial and retail customers and complete repairs for damaged or broken items, including product both in and out of warranty.
  • Review repair orders at the beginning of each day and plan repair schedule based on efficient routes and customer needs.
  • Call customers to notify them of the planned repair schedule; follow-up with customers regarding any changes to the schedule or planned repair.
  • Provide outstanding customer service while completing repairs.
  • Communicate with manager regarding technical support or parts requests.
  • Complete accurate reports once repair is finished, including a record of time worked, and repairs completed.
  • Lift or move items, including appliances, if needed, while performing repairs.
  • Assist as requested with warehouse inventory to ensure parts are available to service all repairs.
  • Follow and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company guidelines, policies and procedures, and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Two to three years’ minimum experience in repairs or installation related to the position; five years of repair or installation experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to identify variances from the norm. Ability to calculate multiples of units of measure and convert units of measure.
  • Ability to be personable in customer interaction scenarios.
  • Excellent problem solving follow up and attention to detail and accuracy skills.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with all levels of staff as well as customers.

  • This job operates in a warehouse environment with travel to a variety of commercial and residential locations. Ability to work in confined spaces may be required. Ability to lift or move between 75 and 100 pounds unassisted is required. Travel will be required in a variety weather conditions.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax and warehouse equipment.
