Description
George School, an all-gender Quaker boarding/day school located in Newtown, PA, seeks a full-time Class Dean beginning in mid-August 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Responsibilities
- Support all students in the grade.
- Support advisors as they work with individual students.
- Provide a timely and sensitive bridge between parents and the school and establish a cooperative working relationship.
- Address community-wide issues of social climate, tone, respect, and belonging through the development and execution of special programs and scheduling, as well as through intervention with individual students.
- Be responsible for discipline and fostering good conduct.
- Serve as the lead investigating Dean for discipline questions that arise with any student in their class.
- Plan and execute grade-specific activities and events, such as class meetings, trips, and dances with the Director of Student Activities and Class Sponsor.
- Read student course reports, academic alerts, and attendance reports as needed
- Meet with other Class Deans to communicate and ensure consistency among the four grades.
- Meet with learning and counseling services to coordinate academic and emotional support for students.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience teaching Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate curricula preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong attentiveness to detail.
- Ability to work with a broad range of community members.
- Ability to make unpopular decisions, take responsibility, and set boundaries in the face of unreasonable demands and persistent concerns.
- Commitment to working towards antiracism and developing and practicing cultural competency.
- Commitment to the philosophy of a Quaker educational community and a style consistent with Quaker values.
