Description

George School, an all-gender Quaker boarding/day school located in Newtown, PA, seeks a full-time Class Dean beginning  in mid-August 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year. 


Responsibilities

  • Support all students in the grade. 
  • Support advisors as they work with individual students. 
  • Provide a timely and sensitive bridge between parents and the school and establish a cooperative working relationship. 
  • Address community-wide issues of social climate, tone, respect, and belonging through the development and execution of special programs and scheduling, as well as through intervention with individual students. 
  • Be responsible for discipline and fostering good conduct.
  • Serve as the lead investigating Dean for discipline questions that arise with any student in their class. 
  • Plan and execute grade-specific activities and events, such as class meetings, trips, and dances with the Director of Student Activities and Class Sponsor. 
  • Read student course reports, academic alerts, and attendance reports as needed
  • Meet with other Class Deans to communicate and ensure consistency among the four grades. 
  • Meet with learning and counseling services to coordinate academic and emotional support for students.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate curricula preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attentiveness to detail.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of community members. 
  • Ability to make unpopular decisions, take responsibility, and set boundaries in the face of unreasonable demands and persistent concerns.
  • Commitment to working towards antiracism and developing and practicing cultural competency.       
  • Commitment to the philosophy of a Quaker educational community and a style consistent with Quaker values.
