Bartender
Description

General Overview: Our ideal Bartender is someone who is friendly, hospitable and intelligent. This person, also, can navigate a bustling environment with different types of professionals with grace and make good decisions on the fly. Minimum of five days a week availability is a requirement. 

Report to: Owner, Manager on Duty, Operation Assistant. 

Job Type: Hourly (Wage based on experience), Monday through Saturday, Morning and Night

Tasks, Duties and Requirements

  • Take great care of our guests, greet everyone at the door and engage every customer with a smile. 
  • Work well with your co-workers. 
  • Perform varied duties to ensure all aspects of quality service as defined by your handbook are completed.
  • Complete all side work when assigned.
  • Communicate with all staff immediately if an issue arises.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area throughout the shift and leave it ready for the following shift.
  • Have complete knowledge of ALL items you place before a guest.
  • Keep tables free of dirty dishes, empty glassware, debris, empty bottles, etc.
  • Crumb and/or wipe the table when appropriate.
  • Assist other staff with clearing and resetting tables and do so within 1 minute of guest leaving.
  • Communicate clearly using the POS system.
  • Determine when to discontinue to service to an intoxicated guest!
  • Make appropriate judgment calls under more than average stressful situations.
  • Understanding of food safety, equipment safety and sanitation regulations. 
  • Physical requirements: standing, reaching, lifting and bending for sometimes up to 8 hours a day.
  • Works well in high pressure environment (communicates and completes tasks with servers, other tenders and bar backs.)
  • Time management skills (visit with patrons while keeping the flow of food/drinks moving well.)
  • Transport food and beverage items from ANY source to ANY guest table continually throughout your shift.
  • Properly change beer kegs, CO2 tanks and wine bottles throughout the night
  • Update beer and wine lists when needed on computer.
  • Prepare mixers and bar drinks for yourself or others (time permitting) if need be during busy nights
  • Following prescribed opening and closing duties lists as presented during training on checklist.
  • Read emails, look at Met FB page and maintain up-to-date knowledge of The Met.
  • Follow schedule online through Compeat.
  • Maintain clean uniform and comply with dress code.

Knowledge, Skills, Personal Attributes:

  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, high volume bar and/or restaurant is a must. 
  • Excellent verbal and telephone skills, must be able to communicate clearly with staff and patrons in a caring and friendly way. 
  • Ability to hold eye contact and make guests feel welcome.
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Create a positive working environment with high energy.
  • Respectful and posses cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • Keep up to date with current promotions, wine & beer dinners, and catering events. 
  • Always adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Be involved and contribute at team meetings.
  • Carry out instructions given by the management team even when management team is not present.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by completing in-house training courses and continuing education opportunities.
