Description
The Controller is a key leader for Clarke who reports to the CFO and is visible throughout the school’s management team. The Controller manages the accounting and general ledger of Clarke, including preparing financial statements and tax reporting and managing internal and external audits. The Controller administers the financial policies in compliance with funder requirements and can successfully manage multiple priorities with competing timelines.
Requirements
- Provide day-to-day management of finance, accounting and administrative systems, maintaining excellent financial controls, records, policies & procedures
- Maintains completeness and accuracy
- Performs monthly and year-end closings and prepares, quarterly, Balance Sheet and Income Statement account reconciliations
- Maintain daily cash reporting and cash forecast
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports
- Develop and implement appropriate control and risk management procedures
- Manage, coach, cross-train, and develop Finance team members in Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Accounts Receivable/Student Billing, Grant reporting
- Identify opportunities to streamline activities and lead implementation of new processes and technologies.
- Meet established timelines and perform duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Manage accounting for state and federal grants including analysis of spend and reporting
- Manage the year-end audit and tax filings with the outside auditors (e.g. 990, MA PC)
- Prepare and submit relevant state filings, in consultation with relevant consultants (e.g. CFR, UFR)
- Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Prior experience in a nonprofit accounting
- CPA and knowledge of nonprofit GAAP accounting
- Knowledge of federal and state grants and federal CFR
- Ethical conduct and passion and alignment with the organization’s mission
- Excellence in administering accounting applications including the ability to troubleshoot reports, Blackbaud products preferred
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills including excellent Excel skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Team player
- Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact with cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse groups of people
Salary Description
$85,000 - $105,000/annually
