Job Summary
As a Fiberglass Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping the signature aesthetic of America’s most admired yachts. This position performs basic fiberglass lamination and removal for boat decks, hulls, and other parts. The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail, brings a positive attitude, and has a passion for top-notch craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Preparation: Perform rough preparatory work for lamination, including inspection, cleaning, and assembling molds prior to project.
- Material Selection: Select precut fiberglass mat/cloth and mix resins for proper curing and strength. Use various tools such as grinders, buffers, saws, and drills.
- Lamination: Lay fiberglass layers into molds, ensuring proper alignment. Saturate mats with resin, remove air bubbles, and smooth seams.
- Cosmetic Detailing: Assist in removing hulls from molds. Perform cosmetic and structural repairs.
- Safety & Quality Compliance: Follow detailed instructions, safety rules, and chemical handling protocols. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Other: All duties as assigned.
- Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months of experience working with fiberglass resins and composite materials. Can be combined with education or attained through on-the-job training.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift between 25 and 60 lbs.
- Certifications: Must hold a valid driver’s license. Vocational education, a plus.
- Pre-Employment: All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and operation of: jig saw, band saw, grinders, buffer, skill saw, drill, vacuum pump, dremel, tape measure, hand saw, and scale rule.
- Comfortable working with resin casts, silicone molds, and pouring techniques.
- Continuous mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis.
