Provide teaching assistance for up to 5.5 hours per school day at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech in an early childhood school program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are learning and using spoken language.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom Teachers of the Deaf in the implementation of group lessons and individual/group learning activities
- Assist the children through daily routines and transitions (e.g., moving from activity to activity, dressing/undressing, toileting, outside play, snack and lunchtime)
- Engage children in play and early language interactions in and out of the classroom
- Assist in carrying out individual learning and behavior plans and associated data collection
- Assist in attendance, record keeping and preparation of educational materials and learning space
- Provide on-going listening and language stimulation under the guidance of the classroom Teacher of the Deaf and Speech Language Pathologists
- Reinforce and review lessons with small groups and individual students under the guidance of the Teacher of the Deaf and/or Speech Language Pathologist
- Assist students with their equipment, conduct and record listening checks
- Assist in documentation of attendance, student progress
- Comply with state licensing agency, school, and class rules and regulations
- Collaborate with teaching staff in planning
- Participate in staff professional development and complete required state and school trainings
Physical demands:
- Occasionally on the floor for an extended amount of time
- Occasionally stand for long periods of time
- Occasionally some light lifting is required as well as pushing and pulling equipment
- Rarely, lifting a young child
Education, licenses, certifications, skills and experience
- Experience and training in early childhood
- CPR, First Aid and Epi Pen training
- Special education experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred
- Hold or be eligible for Early Education and Care preschool teacher license
