Join the Delta Dental of Iowa team as a Policy Analyst to advance our mission by supporting key policy and programmatic initiatives. You will conduct research, perform environmental scans, and foster external engagement to identify and implement joint initiatives and aligned policy proposals with partners. This is an opportunity to build upon our current engagements regarding sponsorships and grants to build more comprehensive collaborations on policy agendas and joint inititatives with mission-aligned partners.


You will assist with strategies for influencing public policy, including:

  • Proactively identify and analyze proposed state and federal legislation, regulations, administrative bulletins and rules that can have an impact on Delta Dental of Iowa (DDIA) business and mission.
  • Work with health-related associations, industry partners, and other advocates both locally and nationally to understand the impact of policies and work with internal staff to communicate positioning.
  • Partner with the DDIA’s public affairs staff and lobbyist to position our company as the state’s oral health and wellness leader, magnifying other activities that promote the company’s legislative agenda.
  • Engage and communicate with internal team members to ensure an understanding of the impact of proposed legislation to create vision and commitment to action.

This hybrid position is located in Johnston, Iowa and may be filled at a part-time or full-time level.

Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

  • Constantly scans the environment for opportunities to improve oral health/overall health, evaluating options and making recommendations to DDIA policy team.
  • Engage as a regulatory expert: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on state, federal and international legislation and policy; staying ahead of industry trends and anticipating potential risks and opportunities.
  • Research Iowa state legislative proposals, draft analysis of these measures and assist with recommending policy positions for the company.
  • Create documents and presentations for engagement with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Develop trust and work with external and internal partners to further our goals.
  • Works with targeted community leaders, elected officials and others to produce support public policy adoption and execution.
  • Assists with execution of DDIA’s political action committee fundraising and contribution strategy. 
  • Ability to analyze professional documents, access and synthesize research on oral health issues, and make it useful to decision makers.
  • Ability to explain things in common sense terms – verbally and in writing.
  • Engage with DDIA and DDIA Foundation’s leadership teams in a professional and organized manner.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. Excellent analytical, research, writing and communications skills.
  3. 5 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of one year of experience in public policy advocacy, government relations or stakeholder/partner engagement preferred. Health-related experience is a plus.
  4. Experience and understanding of the state and federal policy decision making process.
  5. Ability to travel is required.
