Summary:

 The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals for members and guests in a sophisticated and upscale dining environment. This role involves cooking a variety of dishes, helping kitchen staff with food preparation, and setting up stations for menus as directed by the Executive Chef. The Cook must adhere to safety, hygiene, and quality standards for food service, ensuring an exceptional dining experience. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts, ensuring high standards of taste and presentation.
  • Follow seasonal lunch and five-week dinner menus for food production, pulling and reviewing recipes to ensure all ingredients are available for meal production.
  • Prepare menu items in a timely manner as scheduled, maintaining cleanliness and organization at workstations.
  • Ensure that workstations are kept in a clean and sanitary condition, using a cleaning solution of quaternary sanitizer and water for towels.
  • Organize the serving line for hot and cold food preparation during meal service and expedite the plating and service of meals.
  • Prepare room-service orders and associate meals as needed, in accordance with property policy.
  • Perform tasks as assigned on the cleaning schedule, including cleaning all workstations and equipment immediately after use.
  • Store leftovers and unused food products properly by covering and dating items.
  • Supervise the dishwasher in preparation needed for the day and check in orders that may be delivered.
  • Secure and lock walk-in coolers and ice cream freezers, ensuring all equipment is turned off.
  • Adhere to scheduled times, break periods, and out times, following all departmental and community policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, training sessions, and department and all-staff meetings.
  • Participate in and support the safety program throughout the year, ensuring knowledge of the MSDS books, Emergency Preparedness manual, and specific emergency responsibilities.
  • Respond to associate requests in a timely and friendly manner, providing excellent customer service to residents and visitors at all times, and treating all residents with respect.
  • Participate in the annual associate satisfaction survey
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 

  • Prefer 3-5-year prior experience in food preparation in a full service restaurant and/or in an institutional setting.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Must have a valid Food Handlers Card; administered on site.
  • Must have a valid ServSafe Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of service standards and systems.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to perform duties in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Must be professional in attitude, demeanor and dress.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Minimum Education:

Secondary education is preferred.

Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and other qualifications may be considered.


Language Skills:

The individual must have strong written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.


Availability:

Varied working hours to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Subject to callback during emergency conditions (severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)


Work Environment:

The cook works in a well-lighted, clean environment. S/he constantly interacts with other people, and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. The Association maintains a smoke-free environment throughout the property.
