Description

Purpose:
The Mechanic/Fleet Manager plays a critical role at Local Roots Landscaping by ensuring our fleet of vehicles, equipment, and tools is always in peak condition. This position is vital to maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship and efficiency that our company is known for. Combining mechanical expertise with strong organizational and leadership skills, this role supports our team in delivering exceptional landscaping services to our clients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Maintenance & Management:
    • Oversee all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for company vehicles and equipment.
    • Implement and manage a preventive maintenance schedule to minimize downtime.
    • Ensure compliance with all state and federal vehicle regulations, including maintaining DOT and CDL requirements.
    • Source and negotiate with vendors for equipment rentals, repairs, and parts procurement.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Track and manage inventory for tools, materials, and parts in the shop and warehouse.
    • Monitor and control maintenance and repair costs to meet budget goals.
    • Prioritize and dispatch pickups, deliveries, and service calls to optimize team efficiency.
    • Make recommendations on fleet and equipment upgrades or replacements based on performance and cost analysis.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Conduct safety training for employees on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
    • Participate in the company’s Safety and Risk Management Program, including respirator fit testing and equipment certifications.
    • Ensure shop organization and compliance with OSHA standards and company protocols.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure equipment availability aligns with project needs.
    • Supervise and mentor team members on equipment operation and safety best practices.
    • Act as the primary contact for fleet-related issues, solutions, and recommendations.

Requirements

Skills & Expertise Required:

  • Proven experience in fleet management, equipment maintenance, or a similar role (5+ years preferred).
  • Expertise with landscaping and hardscaping equipment, trucks, and small machinery.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools, repair techniques, and basic computer systems (e.g., spreadsheets, inventory tracking).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities, with a team-focused mindset.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and perform hands-on work as needed.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Valid PA driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • PA DOT Medical Card (or ability to obtain before starting).
  • Class A CDL (preferred or willing to obtain within six months; company-sponsored training available).
  • ASE Certification (preferred; company-sponsored training available).
Salary Description
$24-$32/Hour
