Position Description 


The Manager of Refereeing Education and Development must have a good sense of organization, planning, and preparing teaching materials as well as a solid classroom and presentation persona.  Must have significant experience in and knowledge of refereeing and soccer. Possesses strong project management skills along with the ability to multitask.  This is a motivated individual who is a “student of the game” and has a passion for learning and growing. Through a strong sense of teamwork and leadership, this person will support refereeing activities, initiatives and education within U.S. Soccer (from grassroots to FIFA). They will be required to partner with, communicate with, and collaborate with members of the entire referee ecosystem (State Referee Administrators, referees, referee coaches, assignors, and other U.S. Soccer team members). They will work closely with the Director of Refereeing Education and Development on the development of the overwhelming vision for the department as well as in the creation/implementation of education and development programs.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Education and Development in the day-to-day activities of the department.
  • Work closely with and support all internal U.S. Soccer departments as well as external customers (referee ecosystem) in a collaborative manner focuses on teamwork and ensuring the success of the project, deliverable, or subject matter.
  • Design, develop, and execute in the collaborative delivery of assigned educational and developmental courses, curricula, projects, and programs. Includes: responsibility to review, assess and update current learning curricula (assignments, resources, requirements) for both certification and on-going education.
  • Provide leadership and management direction and support for Refereeing Department initiatives and assigned tasks (events, courses, competitions, etc.). Includes creating content, ensuring outstanding execution, and communicating/collaborating with all associated components of the task.
  • Create videos and other communications and social media content as needed.
  • Manage and organize the Refereeing Department “library” or archive of technical materials (courses, presentations, videos).
  • Contribute to the development and oversight of the Refereeing Education & Development strategy for the U.S. Soccer Refereeing program; improving refereeing at all levels of the game.
  • Participate in the development and planning of all events and budgets and ensure all assignments fall withing the constraints of the budget.
  • Display strong knowledge of applicable U.S. Soccer and FIFA regulations and standards as well as the Laws of the Game
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with all 55 State Referee Committees and other affiliated members.


Requirements


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. from an accredited college or university required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in roles supporting referee development 
  • High level of referee technical expertise
  • Collaborative and passionate about refereeing
  • Commanding and credible presence when representing the U.S. Soccer Refereeing program 
  • Strong ability to build teams, collaborate, communicate, coordinate and partner
  • Experience developing training plans and content
  • Proven proactive problem solver
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Ability to deliver high quality work and execute under pressure/deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills 
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
