As a Loose-Leaf Filing Technician in a Law library setting, this position is on-site and supports collection maintenance activities for an extensive federal library in Washington, D.C. Duties will range widely and require working with diverse library materials.
Responsibilities
- Organize and file all paper loose-leaf supplements (e.g., CCH, BNA, Lexis, RIA, West, DJ, etc.), pocket parts, newsletters, journals, and periodicals
- Discarded the out-of-date files
- Create new files and update filing systems
- Organize storage systems for data and documents as needed.
- General library tasks (e.g., barcoding, re-shelving) related to managing physical collection as needed
- Keep track of activities for each day
- High School diploma or equivalent
- A dedication to preserving information and materials
- Attention to detail
- Ability to develop knowledge of standard Law Library policies, procedures, and services related to one or more library functions
- Ability to learn and follow complex procedures and policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred knowledge of languages other than English
- Demonstrated organizational skills and initiative to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Effectively respond to changing priorities
- Work independently
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
