Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

  • Cultivate and execute a long-term vision for expanding vision care market penetration and develop business plans to drive revenue expansion within the vision segment.
  • Lead, develop and execute short and longer-term strategies and initiatives that will enhance the company’s position in the private and public sectors.
  • Identify emerging technologies and trends in the vision industry and provide analysis and recommendations to the organization.
  • Own and develop the relationship with our vision network and administration partner and form strategic partnerships to further advance our position in the market. 
  • Provide leadership and expertise to internal and external stakeholders to increase applicability and adoption of evidence-based and risk-based vision benefits.
  • Review utilization data, risk assessment data and evidence-based outcomes to make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and expertise in new markets, including Government Programs administration and contracting.
  • Spokesperson externally to the marketplace, stakeholders and the profession on the value of vision wellness and benefits, including the development and delivery of medically focused presentations and content. 
  • Key liaison to and advocate for company within the vision industry (i.e. Iowa Optometric Association, Iowa Dept of Public Health, Colleges/Universities of Optometry).  
  • Lead the development and execution of network recruitment strategies. 
  • Build strategies to reinforce the DeltaVision brand with providers and provide consultative support to providers ensuring exceptional satisfaction and engagement. 
  • Represent DeltaVision and DDIA in research studies and other academic relationships including presentations and project participation with the Colleges/Universities of Optometry.
  • Represent DeltaVision in science, research, and health policy at the national level.  
  • Provide input and support to Marketing to develop differentiated and value-driven vision products tailored to market needs. 
  • Lead internal vision training for cross-functional teams. 
  • Serve as a resource for the DDIA Foundation representing public health for Iowans as well as creating synergies between the foundation and the parent company.
  • Create, build and lead a national team of optometrists to provide strategic resources and provide support and direction to Delta Dental Plans Association and member companies.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements
  1. Doctor of Optometry or Ophthalmology degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of healthcare insurance products, vision industry trends, and at least 10 years of post-graduate experience in optometry practice delivering vision benefits or strategic leadership experience in the overall vision industry required. Experience in the public and private sector is strongly preferred.
  3. Working knowledge of current vision science, utilization review standards/techniques, data/statistical analysis and practice protocols.
  4. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, which include the ability to make effective presentations and represent company as a spokesperson in public and community relations activities and engagements, and interactions with the media.  
  5. Current working knowledge of evidence-based vision care to include disease management, vision wellness and systemic correlations, including challenges associated with underserved and special needs populations.
  6. Familiarity with vision quality assurance programs, vision health risk assessments, evidence-based community interventions and the criteria and standards used to monitor and measure patient outcomes.
  7. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and train teams and individual team members to understand the issues and trends in vision, and how it applies to and impacts our business.
  8. A history of collaboration, along with the ability to build and nurture relationships with professional groups including organized optometry, the Primary Care Association, vision health coalitions, insurers, community health centers, legislators, physicians’ groups, school health professionals and health policy makers is preferred.
  9. Participation in multiple optometry professional organizations is preferred.
