The academic advisor advises secondary students through course planning, academic progress, and postsecondary preparation using a relational and supportive approach. Encouraging students to take ownership of their academic and career goals is key, along with fostering partnerships with families, faculty, and community organizations. The academic advisor reports to the dean of Academics. All faculty members are expected to contribute to chapel and other spiritual development activities, embodying their roles as both educators and spiritual mentors who model Christian values, along with other duties as assigned.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide academic and postsecondary advising to secondary students and families
- Oversee student progress toward graduation requirements, including student volunteer hours
- Schedule students’ academic courses, ensuring appropriate placement and graduation alignment
- Assist students with college, military, and workforce recruitment and application processes
- Coordinate with recruiters, organize college visits, and manage scholarship opportunities
- Administer and coordinate standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, AP, iReady, etc.)
- Possess a minimum of a master’s degree in education
- Exhibit a strong faith and exemplary lifestyle
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective professional relationships
- Ability to accept direction and professional development
- Ability to exercise good judgment
- Must submit to a background check
Preference will be given to applicants who are members of a congregation of the churches of Christ. All applicants must be members of a local church and sign and abide by the MDCA Statement of Faith and Community Covenant to be considered.
